8/18/2015: GDT Braves play on in San Diego

Melvin JR: 102 WRC+ and 0.9 WAR in 51 games

Markakis: 105 WRC+ and 1.0 WAR in 117 games

Maybin: 107 WRC_ and 1.4 WAR in 109 games

Hmmmm

This game, bookended with the Uggla game, is a perfect match set to frame the 2015 season.

Bring on Bethancourt and anyone else who might be considered a candidate for a 2016 job and end this miserable schitzo season. Release Gomes, DFA Terdo and Lavarnway and the clowns in the pen like Detwiler and Aardsma bring em all up to start the learning curve now. That top five draft pick needs to become a reality.

Also the Braves are 14th in the NL in WRC+ and runs scored. Philly has scored one less run than the Braves. We may very well end up with the worst offense in the league. Something I was told wasn't possible this offseason.

I'm just really shocked that putting the ball in play isn't leading to more runs.

At this point, anyone who is capable of playing in the bigs, expected to be a candidate for a spot going forward, and not subject to some kind of service-time considerations should be in Atlanta and getting regular playing time. There are 40 games left—not an inconsiderable amount of time.

Regardless of the results, this year's team has been a pleasure to watch. They just play baseball the right way.

Are the folks rolling out the comparative stats trying to make a case that we'd be contenders if we hadn't made any moves during the off-season (or that the moves we made would have been at the margins)? If so, I've got some swamp land that would make an excellent place for a hotel for you to look at.

One can't prove the negative, but if anyone is trying to make a case that a half-season of Melvin Upton, Jr., actually resembling a baseball player makes up for the two years in which he absolutely stunk in Atlanta warrants his inflated contract it's ridiculous. The bottom line of the off-season is that there was going to be a re-build after 2015 or 2016. The new leadership team opted for the earlier date because they gauged the return on trades was going to exceed the return on draft picks. We'll see how that works out.

As for last night, I quit paying attention after Simmons hit into the DP to kill the rally.

yeah but who? Most of our good prospects are no where's near major league ready and the ones who are (Folty, Wisler etc.) are already up and sucking.

But the concept makes sense: cut anyone who isn't going to help next year and give regular playing time to anyone who might.

We should be claiming just about anyone on waivers with any potential to be any good. Its hard for them to be worse than the crap we have.
