8/18 GDT: WHAT? The Nationals Again, Already?

I'm a huge Andruw fan... My favorite brave ever. I've always thought of him as the best defensive cf I've ever seen, so I looked up his dWAR and compared it to ender and kiermaier.

Ender's best dWAR was 2.6 last year. Andruw only topped this number 4 times in his career. An interesting note is ender beat Andruw's dWAR in his second year.

Kiermaier was at 5.0 dWAR last season. Andruw never came close... 3.9 was Andruw's best. In only 67 games this year, kiermaier has a dWAR of 1.9, which is pretty remarkable.

So, does dWAR have it right here? Is ender close to Andruw and is kiermaier better?

We don't really have complete results as the UZR and DRS models only go back to 2002 because that's the earliest we have the data for it. Now anything before that uses a different metric and while it's good it's not as good as we have now. So you can't really compare it to Andruw's first 5 seasons which were likely his best.

Also another thing to consider is that one year of UZR or DRS data is really a small sample size. It takes about 3 years of data to reach what one would consider 1 year of hitting data. So while I'm not going to say either of those haven't had seasons that compare to any of Andruws. The thing that makes Andruw so damn good is that he did it consistently for a decade. That is hard.

Yea, he has been better than them over that span. However, it is a smaller sample for him too but either way all three have been great in CF (he and Ender are two of the best now, Andruw was the best in MLB for years too).

Agreed. However, from what I have seen of KK he does seem to be a Simmons in the outfield if you know what I mean.

5.0 dWAR last year. If you put his pace at 1.9 in 67 games over a full season, it's 4.6. Yeah, he good

Can you imagine him and Inciarte on the same team? Well, wouldn't mean as much if AJP is catching (all the potential runners nailed at the plate is taken away with AJP catching).

Kemp did make it to the ball on the line... its just the whole catching part that's hard. Ender can't help him with that one.

He could buy him that big glove Frenchy was sporting in the photo. But yea might not help, or if it did he'd take even longer getting the ball out of it and more singles turn into doubles while he plays find the ball in the grab bag. :)
