8/18 GDT: WHAT? The Nationals Again, Already?

Let's add up all the extra attendance you attribute to Swanson for the rest of this season. Then, we will compare it to the cost of losing the age 29 season of a 3-4 WAR player 6 years from now when the price per WAR on the FA market will be about $10M per WAR.

The point was not that Swanson couldn't bump attendance a bit. The point, which you so obviously missed, was no attendance boost for the rest of this season could possibly make up losing his age 29 season that will probably be worth $40M+ (and potentially more if he is the next Alan Trammel, who posted 8 WAR in his age 29 season).

Anyone that thinks a season of Swanson at the age of 22/23 is even remotely as valuable as his age 29 season is likely to be is either a complete moron, or has a crystal ball and knows Swanson will completely flop in his late 20s. I doubt any of you have such a wonderful crystal ball.

I wouldn't have promoted Swanson but I don't really care either way. If Swanson is a good player and not extended he will be traded before he becomes a FA anyways. And there were several people saying Swanson wouldn't bump the attendance at all. Those are the people I was making that post for.

I didn't realize there was a deal in place that automatically eliminates Swanson from signing an extension or exclusive no trade clause.. I guess they should have waited after all.

--I would not have called him up either.. but only because I didn't think he was ready. But then your #1 prospect will be 23 before the start of 17 season, I guess it is time to show if you are deserving of that high of ranking.

I wonder if Swanson's stats at Mississippi were down some bc of the excessive days off.

East and mid atlantic doesn't start yet.

The southwest is also already in full swing. It's interesting that some of the hottest parts of the country still begin school the earliest. I assume it tracked with earlier harvest periods in the past, but I refuse to do any research on this subject.

Whalen...

6.0 ip 3 h 1 er 3 bb 6 k

He now has 23 k in 22 ip, so he's keeping up his k rate.

Enscheff, you gonna give Whalen some credit tonight? You're the first to bash him when he's bad

He's much better than Jenkins that's for sure.

I think for AZ at least it's an effort to stop school before the hottest part of the year temperature wise in June and July and save some electricity bills. So we go back early August (even though that's the hottest part of the year to me in the Phoenix area due to humidity).

Yea, it's really pick your poison.

I'm up in the Verde Valley, where the weather's a little less predictable; but August is usually both hotter (in absolute terms) and wetter than June (—though June was insanely blazing this year, while August has been relatively mild and relatively quite rainy).
