Here's kind of an existential conundrum: is Justin Upton so un-clutch that he can retroactively render clutch situations non-clutch by the mere fact of his having had success in them?
Wait till Woods,Minor and Tehran can walk out there with the savvy of Harang and Santana. The young three need their best stuff every night for 100 pitches. It's fun watching Harang and Santana weave through lineups with flat fastballs and hanging breaking pitches and still keep the team in games.
The kids are learning
I'd take Harper over Justin and Heyward. Harper playing center can cover as much field as two corner outfielders combined. Am i right?
I think you've created a grammatical conundrum. Here's kind of an existential conundrum: is Justin Upton so un-clutch that he can retroactively render clutch situations non-clutch by the mere fact of his having had success in them?
So we burn Walden for one out and now Carpenter again? Smells like Pittsburgh!
So Justin has to be top 3 in NL MVP consideration? Top 5? Of course a lot can change before the end of the season.
It's awesome to watch Upton when he is hot. Have to sign him long term. Just have to.
Freeman's numbers have been crazy too.Justin Upton's stats over the last week are incredible: .481 AVG (13-27) with three homers, 13 RBI's, one triple, four walks and eight runs.
That's insane. 13 freaking RBI's.
It's awesome to watch Upton when he is hot. Have to sign him long term. Just have to.
What if you can only keep one of him or Jason?
I would take Jason. I think he ends up being a .300 hitter and develops enormous power. That plus his defense> Justin.
That said, you have to sign them both. Without BJ and Uggla, you have the cash.
In the NL he's 6th in WRC+, 3rd in homers, and 2nd in RBI. Stanton is ahead of him in RBI and homes and 1st n WRC+. He's the best hitter in the NL but we'll see if being on the Fish who should be out of the race wll hurt him. Another thing is Freeman is 7th in WRC+ and will likely take quite a bit of votes away.
Then you have guys like Seth Smith and Goldy who are having great years on horrible teams. They won't get many votes. Cutch is having a great year but the Pirates are likely out of it so not much love for him. Puig right now has to be the slight favorite since he has lots of hype, having a really good year, and is on a first place team.
I'd have to say if the season ended today it would be
Puig
Stanton
Upton
I will say the only thing hurting Puig is the lack of sexy stats. Only 13 homers, 59 homers, 7 steals, and 70 runs. He likely won't have any traditional MVP counting stats besides maybe a 300 average. A lot can change in the next 5 weeks though. If Upton can carry this hot streak through most of the end of the year and get the Braves a WC spot he could pull a 99 Chipper on us.
How are you not paying BJ? Uggla comes off the books after 2015, BJ doesn't. I'd love to keep them both but not if it means we go cheap on the pitching. That never seems to work.
