9/2 BA Hotsheet

So much for our thought that Soroka was getting tired, huh?

Yeah. He's had a tremendous season. Most of it at age 18. Very impressive. I think there is a significant gap between him and Allard and the rest of our pitching prospects. Good chance he and Allard finish next season in AA.

If I had to list 2 guys outside of Albies that would be off limits on trade talks it would be Allard and Soroka. They have shown tons of growth and should only get better. What our rotation could be in 2 years is scary. Especially if we draft say Houck next year.

I think Fried could be in that discussion as well, but he hasn't proven himself like Soroka or Allard. We have a very exciting future indeed.

Maitan would need to be on that list as well - especially at this point.

I like Soroka. I really do. I haven't seen him pitch in person so don't know much about his stuff except what the stats tell me, which can, at times, be misleading.

But, he has the stats that you would expect from a control pitcher or sinkerballer with a good but not great FB. His BB per 9 is fantastic at 2.01 and his strike percentage is 67%. He has a G/F ratio of 2.66 and has only given up 3 HR in 143 innings so apparently he stays low in the zone. But so far his K rate per 9 is only 7.87 which isn't fantastic for low A. I wonder how that will play as he moves up and faces better hitters.

If his K rate was better I would say we have another potential Kevin Brown. Hopefully he's not another Tyrell Jenkins.

there is a vast middle ground between brown and jenkins. in his prime brown had some of the best stuff of any modern pitcher

He also just turned 19.

Didn't say that there wasn't a big middle ground and that's probably where he'll land. Just pointing out that, while his numbers overall have been good, his K rate leaves room for suspicion that he may not be as good as everyone would like.
