9/21 GDT: Mets Hoping not to wither under Braves' onslaught

According to Statcast, Cespedes' drive had an exit velocity of 101.7 mph and a launch angle of 28 degrees. Batted balls with those traits go for a hit 84 percent of the time and a home run 72 percent of the time. Inciarte had a first step of -0.73 seconds on the play, which means he was actually moving before the crack of the bat. He reached a top speed of 19.2 mph and covered 104 feet.

statcast is amazing

The only person they could throw at us and I'd really consider taking a deal would be Schwarber. He's a bit of a liability, but he'd be the perfect bat for our lineup. That being said, no thank you - I want Inciarte as our leadoff man for quite a while. I do wish he could better utilize his speed.

I definitely understand that stance and I'm not that different. It would take a trade on the Schwarber level for me also. Although I'm still not convinced in Schwarber but the talent is sick.

I'm convinced of his bat, that's for sure.

Where would Schwarber play for us? The guy makes Gattis look nimble.

That is my other big concern... but a bat like him at Catcher would be an incredible commodity if he could handle the defense and not make our young pitchers struggle.

didn't he blow out his knee if I remember correctly. Do you think he needs to be behind the plate if that was the case?

Pudge had a couple cleanouts. I know Schwarber was a reconstruction, but it doesn't necessarily follow that every catcher who has knee surgery must be moved to left.

Schwarber's surgery was much more extensive. Plus unlike Pudge there were a lot of questions about his catching ability even before the injury. I would be surprised if any team decided to give Schwarber another look at catcher.

Definitely not advocating him being our catcher... and that's my big concern with him... defense in general... catcher or OF. Just saying, that bat at catcher if he could be a decent defender is something that is rare.

I know the Yankees were all over Schwarber before (and some after) he got hurt, but with the emergence of Sanchez (who also has questions about his defensive ability behind the plate), I wonder if they still have that level of interest. I think Schwarber ends up in the AL where he can DH and the Cubs get a haul (and probably a CF in the process) for him.

I think if you get Schwarber, you need to play him at 1B.

I personally would be thrilled with that prospect but I don't think there is any way they trade Freeman now, no matter the return.

As an example of my thinking: Inciarte and Cabrera to Chicago for Schwarber. Freeman and Kemp (Braves pay most of Kemp's salary and Kemp is DH) to Houston for Bregman, Cameron, Tucker and Fisher. Teheran and Mallex to Colorado for Dahl, McMahon and Nunez. Markakis and Newcomb to the Yankees for McCann and Frazier. Whalen to the Twins for Santana and Hughes. Sign Morton.

2B Albies (Peterson to start 2017)
SS Swanson
3B Bregman
1B Schwarber
RF Frazier (sign Beltran for 2017, 2018)
CF Dahl (Acuna future possible)
LF Fisher (Cameron, Peterson, Riley future possible)
C McCann/Flowers/Recker (Carry three catchers with McCann getting time at 1B)

Rotation: Santana, Folty, Wisler, Hughes, Morton (long term Weigle, Allard, Fried, Touissaint, Soroka, etc. add in.)
Pen: Johnson, Viz, Withrow, Krol, Simmons, Ramirez, Bradley/Rodriguez

Won't Happen. But not impossible.

Where are you getting publicly available statcast data?

How exactly does his ability to hit LHers in any way coincide with his elite defense?

This is the exact kind of off the mark counter points Im talking about. Do you seriously not understand that being a platoon player is in no way related to defensive ability?

It actually is. A player's defensive ability isnabsolutely taken into account when deciding whether to platoon them. An elite CF like Inciarte would have to OPS about .500 against LHP before I'd want him out of the lineup.

Even when we disagree, this right here, is why I would vote for you for poster of the year.. your trade ideas are always intriguing and spectacular all bundled together. I really wish you would find a GM role with some team just to watch you wheel and deal.

All of those deals are impossible save maybe the Newcomb one.
