9/29/2013 - Braves v. Phillies - Regular Season Finale

Honestly, not a bad weekend. Last night hurt but overall you win 3 out of 4 against a team you're normally going to feel pretty good. Friday was our lowest hit total of the weekend and we still managed to get a win. 17 hits today, 12 Saturday, 3 Friday, and 12 Thursday.

If you want to look at the negatives, this was a bad month, we finished 13-14 on the month, struggled offensively for most of the month, lost home field advantage, McCann struggled and the bullpen had some hiccups. Positives, we started to swing the bats this weekend, Medlen looks like the ace of the staff, Freeman was great, and frankly the playoffs are a whole new ballgame.

Rough month but we were due for one. We played our tails off up until September, so there was bound to be a bit of a mental let-down.

I give these guys a lot of credit. I thought we were a borderline playoff team and I never thought 96 wins were in the offing, especially with almost $30 million in payroll playing like guys who shouldn't be above AA.

Add in the injuries they had along with the struggles of BJ and Uggla, pretty remarkable.

I'm just happy today, because finally the Nationals definitively have no chance of catching us to win the division.

Well, a good way to close out the season. Most encouraging part was we actually hit throughout an ENTIRE game. Hopefully that carries over into this series.

Look, the Cards are red-hot and earned homefield. The Braves controlled their destiny and couldn't close the deal. Blew a couple games and couldn't beat 4th-place teams at home.

All that said, time to focus on the task at hand. We can worry about the Cardinals if/when we get to them.

The only thing that matters now is we have homefield against the Dodgers in the NLDS. We're going to have a tough time with them, but despite our less than stellar track record at home in recent NLDS, I like our chances with them coming to us first.

It goes without saying that Medlen is going to have to pitch like he has for the past month, Minor has got to learn to get through the first inning without getting lit up, and Julio needs to keep the ball in the park and go deep into the game as possible.

Hitting-wise, we've got to produce with runners on base, and for the love of God, stop swinging at the first pitch and STOP TAKING THIRD STRIKES WITH THE BASES LOADED.

I would guess virtually no one outside of the organization or fan base will pick us to win this series.

So with that in mind, as the great Lou Brown from Major League said, "I'm all for giving them a nice big **** burger."

Braves in 5.

This is why I'm encouraged heading into the playoffs.

Heyward, J Up and Freeman go into the playoffs swinging the bat well. J Upton possibly getting red hot again could be a huge boost to our playoff chances. Let's not forget this guy carried us in April.

Medlen, Minor and Julio should be a good enough threesome to at least give us a chance.

This. Winning the Eastern Division over the Nats means a lot, especially after all their arrogance and chatter. After our WC debacle last year, anything that happens next is gravy.

My Question is, where do they put the 2013 flag?

Right next to the 2014 one :)

Seriously, they are still at this? I went to Kilgore's Twitter page to see if this was real.

God help those over barring.....no wonder they banned me from wnff.net. They sealed their fate the minute the shut Overratedburg down last year.
