A Part Of Our Legacy

"For the first time in 1,600 years, Mass is not being said in Mosul: an ancient culture has been wiped out in a matter of weeks. It's a war crime that, strangely, no one seems to want to talk about.

Mosul is the second-largest city in Iraq and the place where many Christians believe Jonah was buried. Since the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) rode into town, their faith has been forced underground. Bells have been silenced, the hijab enforced with bullets. Tens of thousands fled after being offered an unattractive choice: convert, pay a religious tax, or be put to the sword. The levy was unaffordable. According to one local news agency, Isis troops entered the house of a poor Christian and, when they didn’t get what they wanted, the soldiers raped the mother and daughter in front of their husband and father. He committed suicide out of grief...."

"...The West’s direct intervention in Iraq created Hell on Earth for its Christian citizens, while the West’s lack of action in Syria (out of deference to its failings in Iraq) has permitted a regrouping of Islamist forces and the opening of a second front against Christians. The lesson is: “either leave other countries alone or, if you must intervene, do so with consistency and resilience”. The consequences of going in, messing things up and then quitting with a weary shrug are terrible for those left behind...."

very sad

and to think

we could have done so much good but instead W and his crew told us to "go shopping" and they invaded Iraq after 9.11

No WMD, lost a family member, not securing any oil, this is what we ended up with.

Yes, this is all our fault. I hope DICK Cheney is happy with all the blood on his hands for what, some oil fields? Asshole.

Where are all the Israeli haters? Only concerned for the welfare of Palestinians? Not concerned about Iraqi Christians?

Or how about Pakistan for its crackdown of terrorists in it's northern territories? Not concerned about Muslim civilians killed there?

Where are the calls against ISIS? The fist shaking against the Pakistani government? Marches. Pictures of dead children plastered everywhere? Speak up guys.

I don't watch John Stewart. Has he not mentioned these things? And so you just don't know about them?

And mentioned nothing about the Christians who would be the brunt of their ire. Nope, just "let's talk about Obama just sending in a little force and how bad Cheney is."

There are well over 30 million people in Iraq. About 200-450k are Christians, a percentage of whom have already fled.

Crickets.
Iraq has been a bloodbath of innocents since 2003. The list of atrocities is long. Now you're in a hissy over a few Christians having to relocate and a few crosses being taken down. Am I right or is there more to this?

And it's the Christians and the Yazidi that are being targeted, attacked, beheaded, raped, etc. Looks like it'd be worth a mention amidst the yuck-political-fest.

Respectfully, that's a pathetic response.
