Acuna has a torn ACL

Well damn. Awful news and I hate being wrong about saying it wasn’t bad. This is the most I’ve ever wanted to be able to say “I told you so”. I just hope he can recover.

This stinks. I just hope he has a full recovery and will be ready next year. For this year we needed more and he’s irreplaceable. I think co tending is. highly unlikely and unless there is long term benefit we shouldn’t be buyers.

Conceivably the only thing this should impact is running right. Does a right handed hitter use their right leg much in a swing?

Chipper Jones tore his MCL and had to have complete knee reconstructive surgery just as he was ready to make the Braves' opening day line-up in 1994. I think he went on to have a pretty good career. Not trying to make light of Acuna's situation, but this isn't a death knell on his career. It might affect his speed a bit, but look at all the professional football players who have this type of injury, have surgery, go through rehab, and are pretty much back to normal. Baseball is different so it's not apples-to-apples, but if all goes well, I expect Acuna will be back at 100%. Big thing is not to rush the recovery.

Yeah, he has been known to overreact, but I could see the look in his eyes. The look was not pain, rather “My season is over”. He was devastated.

Not even worried about it. Nfl cranks these surgeries out all the time... now if it happens again, then worry

Soroka's medical issues aside, doctors are fixing knees all the time in just about every sport these days and I trust the Braves' will have him in good hands. In the 1960s, this would have been a death knell on his career, partially because of surgical techniques, but more importantly because the field of "sports medicine" didn't exist. I just hope the surgery is successful and he takes his time and does the rehab right. The rehab, at least to me, is the more relevant part of the recovery.

It's been less than a week since Pache had a four strikeout day in Gwinnett. I feel certain they go with short bench today and bring Waters along to join the party after the break. The reason is this a perfect time for him to shine.

Waters hitting .389 for July. His last games:

4-4, 2B
1-4, 3-run HR, SB
2-4, 2B, 3B
0-4
1-4, 2B
3-4, 2 SB
1-5, 3-run HR
2-4, 2 2B

Pache will be the guy. I don’t see them starting Water’s clock. He will be slated in for next year and maybe get a cup of coffee in Aug.

I selfishly want to see waters just so we can get a look at another guys mlb statcast data. Without Acuna (especially after all the other losses) there is no realistic way to compete this season, so it becomes more or less a rebuilding/evaluation year.

5/26 thru 6/11:
15/47 (.319 BA), .418 obp

6/11 thru 6/20:
Injury

6/20 thru 6/30:
1/32 (.031 BA), .250 obp

July:
14/36 (.389), .421 obp

I think that horrible stretch from 6/20 thru 6/30 is directly tied to the injury. He was rolling pre-injury, and he's rolling again now.

Would you just bring up waters, pache, and Contreras, and play them every day?
