Acuna Jr won't make OD roster

I honestly hate the idea of keeping Acuna down for two weeks just to suppress his service time. It’s such a grubby, cheesy thing to do.

But those are the incentives of the CBA, and trading two weeks now for a year of control down the road is a no-brainer. It’s arguably different if you have a potential playoff team - in 2010, we needed a win on the last day of the season to sneak into the playoffs, and two weeks of Jason Heyward might legitimately have been the difference there.

But if you’re going to be somewhere between crummy and mediocre, you have to keep Acuna down.

This is where I am. I hate the move but the law of the land makes it that the teams have to do this. Hopefully Acuna isn't bitter and uses this decision to impact signing a future contract.

It’s more likely that he’ll be more bitter that we **** all over him at an arbitration hearing. The Braves have a policy of being dicks. Best not to half ass it

My hope is that AA moves us past this and ownership stops being frugal around the edges.

It's clear that the old guard was slipping with the modernization of the game. Will be fun to follow how AA reshapes the organization.

If the players hate the rule then make it a centerpiece of the next collective bargaining round.... but until it is changed you can't be mad at teams for using it to advantage.

If most teams do, but yours doesn't, they are at a disadvantage. It is not personal at all. It is an outcome of the rules as they are now written.

LOL good point. If they are going to drag Folty to an arbitration hearing over $100k, they sure as hell better hold Acuna down 2-3 weeks to save $10M.
