Acuna straight up for....

Is it? I assume everyone posting here has at least two hands and probably some form of genitalia.

I think this guy posts here.

Doesn't matter. If acuna is a star he won't be on the braves after age 30.

That's optimistic, given his age now and likely debut next year, he'll be 26 going on 27 when his FA term will normally up. You're giving us 3 more years than I woudl expect.

Rarely indeed. I think the only one I can think of was the Delmon YOung for Matt Garza type of trade. Even then they weren't prospects at that point but very young major leaguers.

Short answer to the question, I'd trade him for anyone young and under control. Bryant, Judge, Altuve, Trout, and a handful of others. No prospect is a sure thing. Delmon Young, Lastings Milledge, Brien Taylor, Ben Grieve, Sean Burroughs, Drew Henson, Brandon Wood (I admit too, I loved Brandon Wood and wanted the Braves to get him) Corey Patterson, Paul Wilson, Matt Bush, and so many more who never amounted to anything in the majors. Not even counting guys like Rocco Baldelli and Grady Sizemore who had health issues.

This answers the question. I can't imagine I'd do it, but he's your trump card - I'd be interested to see if the Marlins said no to Acuna for Yelich. Then maybe turn around and offer a couple of the arms you considered using in a deal for Yelich to Milwaukee for Domingo Santana.

Too much XM radio for you.

Yelich is a great player, but I don’t consider him a star quite yet. He “should” be in the future. Right now his contract and Production are very valuable...I just don’t think we should give the farm for him like he is already a big star. Acuna will be a better player than Yelich and maybe even in his first year at 20.

I think that its possible we can lock him up for a year or two beyond his arbitration years if we offer him an extension early with better money up front. I think we could keep Acuna until he is 28, maybe 29 if you are really optimistic. If he really is everything he is made out to be, the Braves will do everything they can to keep him as long as possible

Over the last few years guys with skills that are traditionally rewarded in arbitration have forgone signing early career extensions. Acuna is probably going to produce stats that are well rewarded in arbitration.

The Braves will already control Acuna’s age 20-25 seasons, and will almost certainly keep him in AAA long enough to control his age 26 season as well. Acuna will most likely decide to go the same route Machado and Heyward did and be selling his late 20s on the FA market.

He will probably make a small fortune in 6-7 years with the Braves, and then sign a mega 10+ year contract in the $400M+ range after that if he is what we hope he is. If he’s just the next Heyward he will still get a $250M contract.

It's hard to understand why you would spend the time even considering that possibility.

Highly doubtful. There have been only 10 players since WW2 to have a fWAR over 4 as a 20 year old. I have high hopes for Acuna but I doubt he makes it #11. Would love to be wrong on that.

And the reason you would give up multiple top prospects besides Acuna and Wright for Yelich is because of his contract and how good he is. Yelich on the open market is a 25+ million per year guy. When you acquire players it's either with real money or with prospects. For a team like the Braves it's somewhat imperative to get cheap production.

Players like Acuna who don't have the big signing bonus aren't too difficult to extend for a couple of years as long as you don't really low ball them. And with his age they can still hit FA before they are 30. I expect the Braves to sign him to a deal that buys out 2 years of FA at some point as long as he doesn't bust.
