AcuñaMania has reached fever pitch, as he is the number 1 prospect in baseball.

Here are his AAA numbers at 19 years, 7 months, and 9 days old:

Games: 14

PA: 61

AVG: .269

BABIP: .297

HR: 3

PA per HR: 20.3

RBI: 8

SB: 2

PA per SB: 30.5

R: 9

BB%: 11.5%

K%: 19.7%

ISO: .231

wOBA: .385

wRC+: 142

He was 0-4 last night: 2 flyballs, a rocket oppo lineout, and a grounder to 3rd.

Here are Mike Trout's relevant numbers in AA at age 19:

Games: 91

PA: 412

AVG: .326

BABIP: .390

HR: 11

PA per HR: 26.6

RBI: 38

SB: 33

PA per SB: 12.5

R: 82

BB%: 10.9%

K%: 18.4%

ISO: .218

wOBA: .421

wRC+: 156

So, Acuña is hitting HR with more frequency than Trout did. Higher ISO, as well.

He is stealing bases with less frequency than Trout and his average is lower, both of which are due to his low BABIP. His wOBA and wRC+ are also being adversely affected by the low BABIP.

Acuña is barely walking more than Trout. Barely striking out more than Trout.

Hopefully the BABIP normalizes a bit tonight in Allentown. Wouldn't mind a dinger or two, either.

Acuña's potential is absolutely scary.

You need to remember he only had 97 games of Minor League experience before his explosion this year.

He also seems (to my eye) to be carrying a bit of baby fat. He will add more power.

And the ball already flies off his bat. He goes dead center. He goes oppo- doesn't matter. He hit one dead center in AA this year that went at least 450'.

Well, his numbers in AA at 19 were insanely close to Mike Trout's, as well.

Acuña hit .326 with 9 HR and a .390 BABIP in 243 PA. Trout hit .326 with 11 HR and a .390 BABIP in 412 PA.

He was striking out more than Trout, though. However, he has vastly improved his K% in AAA. We will see if he can keep it going.

Improvement at every level for such a young guy with such little experience is not out of the question, and indeed seems to be a pattern with Ronald.
 
I've thought about other comparisons, too. Let's look at Mookie Betts.

At age 19, Mookie Betts was in low-A. He had 0 HR in 292 PA. Did steal 20 bags. Batted .267 with a .298 BABIP. Had a sensational K%, though, at 10.3%.

At age 20, Mookie Betts spent the year in A and high-A. He hit .314 with 15 HR and 38 stolen bags. 551 PA. A K% between 8% and 12%.

At age 19, Ronald has spent the year in A+, AA, and AAA. He is hitting .307 with 15 HR and 35 stolen bags. 430 PA. A K% of 25% across the 3 levels, but that's improving at every level, with his AAA K% at 19%.

No, I definitely agree. Acuna is a beast, and there's nothing more fun than a prospect setting the minors on fire at such a young age.
 
Ronald has the hardest hit ball of any Braves player this year at any level: 114 mph.

Kemp is 2nd with a 111 mph dinger.

It's going to suck when you are right about Acuna and he signs with the Yankees for 500 million at the age of 25.

Acuna is actually a prime extension candidate. He hasn't made any money yet, so throwing $20M at him for his arb years plus some buyouts in exchange for cheap control over 3+ FA years is probably very likely.
 
Crazy that we signed baseball's most coveted prospect for $100,000.

That same year, we paid Juan Yepez $1 million and he's batting .222 in A ball for the Cards.
