Affordable Care Act

" ...before factoring in government subsidies ..."

Curious, as a mid to late 40's year old and if I had Obamacare, take in my health insurance and deductible and had a major surgery that cost a little above 30k, how much would I have paid out of pocket?

I don't have Obamination care so I wouldn't know but since you are always on top of it, what would the max out of pocket cost me?

If you can't answer that, then you have no business reporting or talking about it. You said it is cheap and affordable, but no numbers to back up these claims, just like these sites. I know how much it would cost an Obamacare patient who have been to the hospital who had the same surgery and their job did not provide any healthcare (they automatically reduced hours so they don't have to provide it. The growing issue now). I was like WTF on the costs out of his pocket.

First off, one does not "have Obamination"

I just went through a procedure that my guess would be billable $50K. I have maybe $350-500 out of pocket in co-pays.
Most of that for out patient PT.

Mine friend who has it says you are full of crap.

He had to pay $7500 out of pocket for his surgery under Obamanation care. He wants to know how you pulled that off.

Sweet baby Jesus. It doesn't work like that. Do some light reading on the subject. The government isn't offering healthcare. It is mandating that you have it and that plans meet certain criteria. There is no "obama care" from the gov't.

His out of pocket maximum is likely 7500. That is all that says\means.

Its like you haven't read one thing on ACA.

I don't read Cyrllic or Chinese. I ain't going to call them either. I don't have it but people who only have part time jobs after having full time jobs are not liking it. I wonder why? That max out of pocket is ridiculous. My whole family max is little more than half that and I have low monthly payments.

On the Illinois board they said $7500 is pretty good and it could be worse. The Dems there are worse than 57 in the Kool Aid department and not even close and they don't like the bill. High monthly premiums for policies like mine that my company offers.

When I say COBRA, they said the premiums and care are similar if you want that.

So what AFFORDABLE about that insurance?

Where to start...

COBRA is not a different product. Cobra is the ability to continue your benefits on the companies plan after employment (probably without employer supplement) is over. It should be the same coverage at an increased premium from last I read on it.

That out of pocket maximum is nothing out of the ordinary from what I've seen. Keep in mind a out of pocket max means anything else over that and he is covered as in not a dime more out of his pocket if he has anything else happen, etc...

I know what both are.

I am just trying to figure out the AFFORDABLE part of ACA.

The figures I seen are really high from their page. Almost $400 in monthly premiums and max out of pocket of $4000 + and a family of $8000+, WOW.

What makes this response funny, if not unusual, is that the reforms currently roiling the Harvard faculty are moderate versions of the reforms conservatives themselves not only have championed but continue to champion. The theory undergirding Harvard’s changes is that excessively generous health insurance is inefficient. If consumers bear zero cost, they will over-consume health-care services, thus driving up prices for everybody in the system. Harvard is imposing relatively modest increases in deductibles — a $20 fee for a doctor’s visit, and deductibles up to $250 a year for an individual. Faculty members accustomed to health insurance that covers 100 percent of their costs find a new plan covering merely 90 percent offensive.

Repubs argue (among other things) that the ACA is like a ponzi scheme, which I suppose may be at least somewhat true, depending on which part(s) you look at, but isn't all insurance that way? Don't homeowners policy premiums go up the year after a big hurricane (just to name one example) goes through and causes damage, etc., even for those in other parts of the country who had no claims?

speaking of insurance going up 20%

my car insurance went up 20% for no reason this year

might be time to see my other options

isn't that how insurance works ?

like when that really bad driver plows into your brand new Mercedes --- only to discover your coverage is held up because that really bad driver couldn't afford the same rates you do. Next thing you know you are driving a rented Yaris for a year while your insurance company takes bad driver to court. All the while making those Mercedes payments ( or the cash you laid out for your shiny red German car) is sitting idle in a junk yard somewhere.

Note: Correct me if I am wrong but your posting lead me to believe you are a red car man. True dat ?
