Affordable Care Act

Obamacare is a sham. It's addressing an issue before it becomes an issue which is kind of smart. But the problem is that the issue has to do with one of the most destructive generations. It's yet another time that the younger generations have to pay for the Baby Boomers. Obamacare is essentially a tax on being young and healthy. I have nothing wrong with me aside from lingering sports injuries. Why should I sign up for health insurance?

Lingering sports injuries will get worse over time. Somewhere your body will overcompensate and put pressure on another area.

I love how the administration is touting people signing up when they are literally FORCING people to... Did you see the email I posted?

Obamacare is a sham.
C'mon Z- that is beating a dead horse and you know it. It has been called a sham since 1900's when it was first proposed and has been non stop through Truman and the Clintons. We agree this is not the best method of getting where it needs to be. But it has to start somewhere

It's addressing an issue before it becomes an issue which is kind of smart.
"kinda smart"

But the problem is that the issue has to do with one of the most destructive generations.
How so "destructive" ?? Data shows we as a people are living longer and slowly becoming healthier. And, a good portion of ACA is dedicated to education and preventitive measures.

It's yet another time that the younger generations have to pay for the Baby Boomers.
And the boomers paid for the greatest generation
and the "greatest generation" paid for the doughboys and flappers
and the Yankee soldier paid for all of us to restore the Union
and at Valley Forge
...

Obamacare is essentially a tax on being young and healthy.
But, the young eventually grow old and the healthy will eventually turn ill
My biggest mistake in this discussion is assuming everyone understood that. I am still blindsided by people that don't get that

I have nothing wrong with me aside from lingering sports injuries.
Let's revisit the notion of "lingering sports injuries" in 20 years

Why should I sign up for health insurance?
Like it or not
Because it is the most efficient method of paying for treatment - available.

Short of having surgery (if that even would help) nothing will fix the nagging injuries. And surgery is stupid expensive with or without health care. So again, dont' see the point.

Steaksauce, rather than address your post point by point I'll address it in response.

The Boomers are pretty much the worst generation. They had it easier than pretty much any generation, and left us in a worse off sitaution than pretty much any generation.

Instead of listing the ways they suck, I'll leave you a HuffPo article, you love them so I figure it may seem more credible to you than my points.

And the young don't need to go to the doctor now at the same rate the old do. If you can't see that Obamacare is a tax on the young (making us pay so the boomers and elderly have to pay less)

Only way I back government healthcare is a single payer universal health care, either all or nothing. Cause this in between bull**** sucks ass.

I'm thinking maybe the generation that left the then youth with the Great Depression,Jim Crow Laws, Prohibition and events leading to WWII might get a little rankled at having to play second fiddle to a generation requiring the youth (how exactly do you define youth? 40 the new 25 or not sure which exthe actly age group is being victimized. Under 65's. You run this by your parents who I am sure assisted you in some way along your path? ) to buy health insurance. Buy Health Insurance vs great depression. Boy, that is a millenial BuzzFeed on line poll if ever there was one
I always thought Allan Grayson had the best answer to Obamacare --- "Don't get sick"
Good luck with that

There are a lot of writers at HuffPost. A lot of opinions and a wide array of pictures of Lindsey Lohan sans shorts. Or articles on "hook ups" Not quite sure which part I love - can't decide if she is a skamk getting too much attention or if she -------------- isn't she in about the same age bracket as you?
So, coming to conclusions by your metrics ---- you and ALL of the people your age are, Lindsey Lohan.
See how that works?
////////////////////////////////

And yes, I do agree with most of the things in the article. Except the sweeping generality
Baby Boomers ---- sheeeeeesh

Which generation can we assign blame/credit for
the term "hook up"
Taylor Swift
The TV program "Friends"
Nickleback
Hootie and the Blowdfish

from where I sit it seems better to be required to buy health insurance than the singer Jewel

In closing. A wise man once wrote
"It's addressing an issue before it becomes an issue which is kind of smart."

What the hell do you call what happened back in 08/09? Sunshine happy times? And who got bailed out and saved when the economy tanked? Not the people in my generation who were either just entering the workforce or soon would be out of college. It was the rich people who predominantly would be baby boomers, just a guess. And how did we finance that? By adding more debt, which has to be paid off by future generations. Don't think it's much of a coincidence that Debt went through the roof when Boomers were in the same position that millenials are in now. Because the trend to ruin things for future generations started when they started voting, coincidence? Probably not.

Zito. You were for Obamacare what made you change your mind?

AA, it's only going to get worse. Liberals have people thinking that they are guaranteed success and riches in life.

The history book of the ACA will be titled
"From Death Panels to Daddy Issues"

Something productive would be suggestions on how we go from ACA to a single payer. Alas, it is easier to shake your fist and rail
Legislatively----------------- how do we make that transition?

Call me from the emergency room next time you get sick beyond Nyquil or break a bone.

You know the number of times I've had to go to the doctors since my sophomore year of high school that weren't mandatory school checkups? Once, for an ear infection that I knew was an ear infection but obviously can't get anti-biotics without a prescription.

So that's one time in the last decade. Dental and vision are useful to younger folk, but medical simply isn't and we're being used because as the boomers start going on the other side of elderly, medical costs go through th eroof and we get to shoulder the burden, just like with the debt crisis, and the environmental issues, etc.

I've never been for it. I've always been universal health care. I think forcing people to sign up for private insurance is moronic.

When I was your age (God, that sounds old!) there was a war no one understood and a draft where you either left the country, feigned homosexuality, had a child or threw trash on the side of the road (a Boomer reference for ya) . Or were forced to participate.
And another undisclosed war that some suspected and a surveillance protocol that made NSA look like childsplay. Oh yeah, air raid drills because there were no restraints.on nuclear weapons. Lake Erie was on fire. Literally, on fire

Buying health insurance ------ really?

Vietnam was terrible, but that's really about it aside from environmental issues. Which of course the boomers didn't do much about. It's more the gen x crowd who did better and millennials are continuing that.

Boomers had the opportunity to start up with a company and ride it to it's peak. That doesn't exist anymore in america thanks to, guess what, the boomers.
