Affordable Care Act

LOL... to 57:

1. Still waiting to hear how I could have avoided my 79% increase

2. Still waiting to hear why the woman couldn't buy health care a year ago - what was stopping her?

3. Still trying to figure out how pointing out the massive cost of ObamaCare, while not getting uninsured insured, is not a "level-headed" critique. Help me understand, oh wise one.

1) same way everyone else did.

2) there have been 2 of us tell you. Who knows - look it up for yourself

3) Oh, the massive cost?

3) Oh, the massive cost?

1. Can you provide more details?

2. Why is that my job? You brought her up as a case study - I asked you what was stopping her? You have no idea because there was nothing stopping her

3. Yes, the massive cost. To go along nicely with 97% of uninsured that are still uninsured.

1) No.

2) Because you asked the question. Satisfy your own curiosity. In fact the story was in the Presidents statements a few days ago. Why not go to White House.gov. Perhaps your answer is there. Pretty sure if the story was a red herring Fox would have exposed it by now. You are the only person I've come across that feels a need to ask such a question

3) 97% of uninsured that are still uninsured . That is your answer to #1

Once upon a time, conservatives fought the implementation of any health care reform law tooth and nail. They lost. And then they proposed a bill to repeal it. And lost again. And then proposed 50 bills to repeal it, and lost 50 times. And then they ran on Obamacare in 2012, and lost that too. Big time.

And then, after working so hard to deny people affordable health care, these same jokers were OUTRAGED when HealthCare.gov launched and didn't work. Why, people couldn't sign up for the insurance they didn't want people to have in the first place!

Confusing, right? But it got worse. Because even once the website started improving, bit by bit, conservatives started complaining that not enough people were signing up! You see, it was bad that the law provided affordable health care, and it was bad that people couldn't sign up for it, and when they could, it was bad that fewer people were signing up than projected!

As we hopefully draw this thread to a close, this article pretty much summarizes the thread itself
Once more to be clear - this law is far from ideal but I learned somewhere along the way, a half a loaf is better than no loaf

Really was never intended to be "career politicians" was there? That seems to have slowed the flow.

I don't think the career politician thing has much to do with it. The macro-difference in the sides of the debate have become more clearly drawn, the body politic has "nationalized" to a great extent, and there are so few seats in Congress that are contestable that it really doesn't matter if someone is there a term or twenty terms. They all seem to fall in line. Add to that the fact that it is so difficult to make any decision without it causing some type of dislocation somewhere else that will be pounced upon, causing inertia to take over and curbing chances for reform.

Career politicians are not a recent development. Henry Clay spent over 40 years in government (Congress, US Senate, Secretary of State) and John C. Calhoun also spent about 40 years in various capacities (Congress, US Senate, a couple of cabinet posts). The rules were a bit different then because there wasn't direct election of US Senators, but there was a pretty regular cast of characters stalking the corridors of power.

#1 is uhh...false.

And some made up out of thin air percentage of those people could have gotten lower rates just by finding an agent and shopping it with them.

Did your rates go up 79%?
Or, how about this -- has anyone else on this board experienced a 79% increase in HC since Oct 2013 and used it as proof to show how unwieldy the ACA is?

And, like 50 said, the jury is a long way out on this. But, the vitriol aimed at this form of universal Health Insurance has been astounding. Even considering the 8 years of the last (D) POTUS. Seems to be a pattern here ---

Haven't renewed yet. That isn't how insurance works. I know our carrier raised rates 3x (Oct, Nov, Dec) before the Jan 1 rollout.

It isn't vitrol from me, but there are issues. Pet scans aren't covered under ACA until you have cancer a second time. SECOND. Kids in college can't work what...more than 20 hours or they come of parents coverage causing added expense to parents. Those are just a few, not to mention the premium roller coaster. Blindly knob gobbling this administrations every move just isn't something I don't get into. There are problems. There will be more I am sure.

1. Because you can't. Just your usual BS. The healthcare premiums I pay, though 79% higher than last year, are vastly cheaper than anywhere else I could have paid. You're just an idiot

2. You brought her up. I asked you a question kowing you don't have an answer. Because, like I said, you're an idiot. There was nothing stopping her from purchasing before

3. Mission accompished

Of course there will be issues accompanying the largest insurance overhaul in our history. No one has ever said there wouldn't - and recent history shows the Administration addressing them . No doubt that will continue.

Tapate, what is your stance on Single Payer / Medicare For All??

1) Let me understand, your rates went up 79% but still cheaper than anything anywhere else. How is that possible unless your pre Oct 2013 HC was a gift? And if it was a 100% benefit from your employer why not say so. I truly don't understand why you brought up this number in the first place.

2) The president brought her up and no one except you has questioned her motives or the validity of her story. Again, what is your point. Why ask questions when you already know the answer?? Are you my wife? :)

3) Where have I heard that phrase before ?

1. I have tremendous rates for my premiums. That doesn't change the fact I'm paying nearly double what I was in 2013. I have asked you 104 times now to explain how I could have avoided such an increase... crickets

2. Haha - I'm not taking issue with her story at all. You quoted the President as saying "why should this woman have to go back to being uninsured?" I asked a question - what was keeping her from being uninsured in the first place? Crickets

3. That's right.

yeah Sturg - that is pretty funny.

and this

Dill’s death was not unpredictable, nor was it unpreventable. She had a documented heart condition for which she took medication. But she also happened to be one of the people who fall within the gap created by the 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allowed states to opt out of Medicaid expansion, which was a key part of the Affordable Care Act’s intention to make health care available to everyone.

now there is a face and a name

Hey - I'm not the one touting the mandatory signups as an accomplishment... That's you and your crowd...

Still waiting to hear how I could have avoided that increase

Never said I don't sympathize with the talkers point

but 3 weeks ago you were screaming they couldn't get the numbers they proposed. Then they do and an old fashioned two-step --- of oh what was it six weeks ago --- Obama was after the guns or everyones HC was going to rise 79% or death panels or stealing from young people etc etc etc --- gotcha.

It is just the tone of disagreement and the methods of obstruction. And of course, the lame bordering on inane opposition to a law to insure people

//////////

Sturg what about the Florida woman?

Can you show me where I was screaming 3 weeks ago they couldn't get the signups?

Hey, like the caption says, if you force everyone in the country to do, fine them if they don't, and delay the deadline 935 times, you'll eventually "accomplish" your goal.

Still waiting on how I could have avoided that 79%.

Still waiting
