"disappointing" !!!

When I was 7 and didn't get a pony I was disappointed.
But hey, you did get a kiss out of the (or)deal

Agreed
politics are at least 10 years away. Then implementation -
it is coming

It took since the Teddy Roosevelt administration to get ACA --
..................

but we are not 10 years down the road we are here and the current proposals are cutting $800B from the existing program while proponents of said "reform" lie faster than you can say universal healthcare.

Next question is, aren't the people cutting the $800B the same people that blocked single payer back when ?

I don't see the politics as 10 years off, although I do see the politicians as (at least) a decade away.

Universal healthcare could be a single issue winning platform for a candidate in 2020. I concede that it likely won't be, but the ground is fertile.

Doubtful in 2020, unless Trump has shifted that far left on healthcare.

I could see it being a single issue winning platform in 2024 though, if the right candidates are up there fighting for it.

I see it the same way. It could be closer than people think.

I know it's unlikely, but how much of a nuclear explosion would it be to American Party politics if Trump had the cajones to call for Single Payer and ask Ryan and McConnell to do it. He'd get every Dem to sign on board. What if Dems win mid-terms and regain control of both Houses and Trump calls for it.

Trump has backed single payer and I think he would sign it if for no other reason than to one up Obama.

10 yrs cause
Legislatively we aren't there . All of those Congressman and Senators (both state and Federal) that have run against any kind of government funded HC would have to be removed.
The stigma of the term Socialized Medicine would need a face lift.

Has Trump pissed away the political capital to do something so ambitious as enlist McC and Ryan "?
It was and may still be low hanging fruit - but
I don't think red America is quite ready

I could support single payer so long as it is funded by cutting other spending. Military would be a good place to start.

Just open it up country wide. Let the insurance companies come after you. That's how you get the cost of insurance down.

the one I'm not a fan of

Ha, well to be honest they probably wouldn't really like it either, though they would say they did. We both know who would throw the biggest hissy fit about anything that cut into corporate profits, especially sweet little oligopolilstic niche they've created for themselves. Why do you think Trump backed down on the making our drug companies compete with Canadian drug companies promise before he backed down on any of his quasi-populist programs?

That is the importance of Aetna CEO advocating a national debate for Single Payer.
As the insurance industry goes, so goes the government

We could solve a lot of ****ing issues if we just spent a more reasonable amount on the military. I'm not saying we shouldn't spend for defense, but maybe just make it double what the next closest country is spending?
