Sounds like he didn't slam the door, which is a pretty huge surprise to me. And as usual, I love his candor. If you don't want to know what he thinks, don't ask the question.
Sounds like if not this year then it will happen at some point. I think he'd have a hard time saying no.
So what has Smoltz proven that he's capable of being in the front office?
Complete silence on Chipper for the most part defending Fredi's managing...
I didn't read it that way. I read Fredi deserves a chance to manage without Frank's meddling. Also read that Cox may well return to the dugout.
Nothing. He is intelligent and has a clear eye for talent. You can tell that much while he's in the booth.
I am not saying he needs to he handed a GM job, but a position inside the front office in some capacity would be good for him.

Which would already be 200% more of an endorsement than anyone on here calling for Fredi's head would say.
I didn't read in his comments that Cox would return to the dugout, but rather Cox wasn't so ready to leave when he and Wren were on bad terms. I had no idea it was that bad between them, until Jeff Schultz wrote that Bobby actually packed up his belongings in his car during Spring Training 2009 and headed home because of Frank, until the other coaches lured him back.
I found Chipper's comments on Walker and Fletcher really interesting. IF they really are "very, very good", then how bad does that make our hitters? Or rather how stubborn and uncoachable does that make them appear?
Perhaps it was Frank all along making Fredi play BJ and bat him leadoff. If so, that would explain how he avoided getting the ax.
