This was mentioned in the game thread, but I figured a new one for this subject would be useful here. If anyone missed Bowman's tweet:

#Braves working on possible trade of Callaspo, why he was scratched

Wonder if Martin was being showcased yesterday also. Know that Reyes just went on restricted list. Don't know what value these guys have together or separately.

MLBTR is saying that the news about the potential Callaspo trade came from Fredi during postgame questions. He must be reasonably certain a deal is going to get done - either that, or they are just going to eventually release Callaspo.

That's where I heard it first, hopefully it's a done deal and a good one rather than just having to eat his remaining contract for this year. Though I would expect the latter more likely.

Callaspo says he was told about the potential trade prior to the game. "they said lets wait til tomorrow and see what happens"

Better be a trade and not a DFA. He was actually playing relatively well up til CJ went to the DL and he was forced into a starting role. Ciriaco is not any better. At least find someone who will take on his contract.

Callaspo is a replacement level player making 3 mil. But he does have the veteraness thing going in his favor.

For the record: I think it is borderline moronic to DFA Callaspo just to give his job to Ciriaco.

Chris Johnson (gulp) is back later this week.

Just spitballing, but I wonder if they sign Callaspo if the J. Upton trade is made a week earlier. But I agree with your basic point.

PS--DFA often leads to a trade.
