Alex Wood To DL

Urias pitching Thursday.

Hopefully Kershaw doesnt no hit us but the way he's been pitching as of late and at LA, a possibility.

The Dodgers won that deal in a landslide

If Wood doesn't recover (and I hope that he does recover), the Dodgers are the clear winners. If he doesn't and our pick next week turns out to be somebody, the deal looks better.

I think what clvclv is saying is that's pretty hollow to say you're king of the mountain when you're standing on a molehill. And if Wood doesn't recover, the deal will be the old Shakespearean "sound and fury signifying nothing." In all of this, I just find it ironic that those who so easily blame the front office for anything don't at least give them some credit for seeing Wood as an injury risk.

I think anyone could have seen Wood as an injury risk.

The point is Wood (should have) had a lot more value when we traded him. Peraza too. They traded for a complete loser and took on $30M to do it.

If Wood never throws another pitch the Dodgers crushed that trade just by getting some idiots to eat $30M of Olivera's salary.

Not to mention they already used Peraza in a deal that brought them back far more value than the loss of Olivera

I'm not defending the obvious misjudgment of Olivera's ability, but this isn't the first front office that ever fell in love with a guy basically sight-unseen. There were a lot of folks who were dead wrong on Olivera, not just the Braves. We just happened to get stuck with him.

We'll see on Peraza. He's still very young, but he's another guy on whom the reaction to him confounds me. So many stat types deplore the trade and hail Peraza as a misspent resource when he looks to be a stathead nightmare (horrid BB rate and falling SB% as he rises to tougher competition). If he can't play SS, he may well end up being just a guy. The big thing on Peraza is, as I said earlier, he's still very young.

you are looking at this from one side. what was HO's value at the time of the trade. believe it or not, he wasn't a scrub in LA's minor league system. Plus we got a very valuable draft pick. Paco had some value based on past performance even with injury and not knowing the severity of it... Bird was more of a toss in... But it is wrong to say HO is a complete waste (you are evaluating him after trade) and then say Wood and Jose had more value at time of trade..

Olivera had 55 ABs in their minor league system.

Olivera was 30 years old

Olivera had a serious injury history

Olivera hadn't played ball in like 2 years

We traded a ~3 win pitcher and a top 50 prospect (at the time) for this guy... while we were embarking on a rebuild...

We took on 30 million dollars of salary.

The fact that anyone is even considering even somewhat defeniding this move is baflling.

I never defended the trade. I hated the trade.. but I also don't like when someone compares apples to oranges..

yes HO was 30, but that is not old..
yes HO had hamstring injury.. I don't remember any other 'Serious' injury.
we also made the Dodgers eat 30 million
Again, that draft pick is going to prove very valuable. (hopefully)

again, I didn't like the trade.. but clear landslide victory.. I don't agree..

If Billy Beane had made the deal, it would have been considered to be a great move due to him utilizing the market inefficiency of older, international prospects.

And Peraza as a marginal regular with minimal upside...

That's the mistake Zona made with Swanson.

Just b/c you don't like a player doesn't mean you trade him at that value. If the industry has Peraza as a top 100 or top 50 guy, you trade him at that. If your scouting system thinks he's overrated or not good, that means you shop him not that you sell him low.

But Billy Beane wouldn't have made the deal

yeah he'd make ****tier deals like trading Josh Donaldson, period.
billy beane also signed billy butler to a bigger contract than we took on with HO. he has a ton of blemishes.
grass is always greener. bet we're better than the As the next 5 years.
so emotional.

I'm no Billy Beane worshiper... but this KB fellow has a hard on for insulting him it seems

Butler was signed for 2 years at $10M per year I believe... < HO

It's OK to admit the FO made one of the worst decisions in franchise history... ignoring that fact makes you look stupid
