All Star Game Thoughts

Since we were down last night I thought it'd be fun to talk about the game and how the Braves showed themselves.

Freeman, Markakis, and Albies didn't really show much in their few at bats. One walk. Freeman did hit a ball pretty hard to straight away center but it didn't quite have enough. I do like that Smotzie is on Fox now, so we get some Braves love. He talked up Albies there in the 9th inning only to have him pinch hit for (which tied the game).

Folty pitched really well. I don't think I've looked at his overall numbers this year, but when they showed them it struck me how good he's been. Only 7-5 though cuz the Braves refuse to score runs for him. That was an issue for him last year too.

Overall, the game felt like a microcosm of today's baseball. 90 men came to the plate, half of them did not put a ball in play. 25 strikeouts, 10 walks and 10 home runs. All the runs scored off of homers. Of the 45 balls put in play, 10 were hits. Only one double.

And, as usual, the AL won. They always win.

That was my big takeaway from the game.

Albies put a good swing on the ball in his one AB. A little BABIP luck and it's a hit.

If you look even closer at Folty's numbers you will realize that outside of 2 innings, yes just 2 innings, he has been all world.

I don't know if Smoltz was trying too hard not to be pro-Atlanta but he sounded negative to me. He was ready to hand the NL Championship to the Dodgers.

I really liked the players being interviewed as they were playing. Really cool concept that they should use during the regular season as well.

The board would have been brutal toward Dave Roberts for his poor bullpen management that cost the NL the Game.:FrediPuzzled:

Even giving Baez a 3rd AB(final out) then replacing him on defense with Albies. Should have sent Albies up and limited Baez to 2 ABs.

It was also late and I was tired so I didn't check Twitter but I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie giving Scooter his at bat in the 9th inning was all Ozzie's idea to give SG an All-Star AB since he was the last position player left.

But according to that one waiter Ozzie is selfish and rude.

Are we going to gloss over the fact Kemp was protecting Freeman in the batting order?

He also talked Manny Machado into accepting the trade to the Dodgers during a chat at second. With his speed he could have made it to third but stopped at second so he could chat with Manny. If we had kept Kemp, Manny Machado would be on the Braves right now, playing for free.

I think we are going to re-sign Neck so he and Machado can be teammates again next year

Interesting. I was hoping for someone to miss a play because they were not paying attention, so they would stop doing it and never do it again.
