I was just saying that in response to him ranking second in their system. As an Angels fan recently told me, our system is "crap" so that isn't saying much.

Nah, but you are full of hot air IMO.
I think the Braves are acquiring assets that are availavailable to them for the assets they have now. I doubt they are specifically targetting pitchers. That's just what's available right now. They did get three hitters in the Upton trade.

That's four position players in the past... What? Decade? I guess you could add Prado to that mix, but aside from them I think you have to go all the way back to McCann.
Meanwhile, our list of pitching prospects that have worked out is much, much longer. It has nothing to do with nostalgia either.

It's a valid point. Looking over the Angels prospect list, it's pretty darn thin. I'd put Sanchez somewhere around 10 on our list, give or take.
I saw MLB Pipeline inserted Sanchez at #17 on our list, which I think is noticeably low. They also have Cody Martin at #15, so consider the source I guess. Same Cody Martin who just passed through the Rule 5 untouched.

The bottom line, in my humble, frequently wrong opinion, is that pitcher development is our greatest strength and we consistently develop pitchers at rate that's still better than most of baseball. In economic theory, you focus using your resources in the things in which you have a comparative advantage and trade from those strengths to cover the things you aren't producing.
It may not end up being the best strategy, but it's a strategy centered in logic.

This would make a Moncada signing be ideal now... still think its a long shot, but if that were to happen, I'd end up being very happy with the off season. Is there any news out there when his bidding process may take place/finish??

He has to be cleared by the U.S. government first and there isn't a clear timeline there from what I understand.

Young, controllable pitching is worth a ton in the MLB today. Sure, hitters have gotten bigger money this off-season, but young hitters and pitchers are extremely comparable value wise. Any young controllable MLB caliber player is valuable. This is a good trade. We have a ton of young, high high upside pitching.

Yah... I had read about 3 weeks ago that he may be cleared by about this time, but it seems like that hasn't happened yet.
He still hasn't been cleared by the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control). There could be any number of reasons for this, some of which are under his representatives' control. If they're NOT pushing for him to be cleared ASAP, it could conceivably be because they feel like they've received assurances that at least one team OTHER than Boston or the Yankees is willing to pony up the money they're looking for since they'll be ineligible to sign him if they don't get it done prior to June 15th since those teams will be ineligible to sign him if he's declared part of the 2015 class.
The Pipeline lists haven't been updated entirely yet. They've updated some of the lists for teams that have made trades, but they're updated just like the BA lists and won't be complete for every team for a while yet. The Angels' list that had him at #7 was their midseason rankings from a few months ago.
