Announcer Quality

For all of the well documented shortcomings of Chip and Joe, I still think they're above average both in terms of quality and homerism. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give them about a seven. Based on listening to other broadcast teams, how would you rank them? A few of my observations on that same scale of 10:

10-Mets (Cohen, Darling, and Hernandez are as good as I've heard. They're not afraid to call out their own players or coaches when criticism is warranted)
-Dodgers (Vin Scully is a treasure who can wax eloquent on a variety of subjects and is just so easy to listen to)

7- Phillies, Giants

4-Marlins

1-Nats, Padres, Pirates (difficult to listen to, unprofessional, poorly informed, and insufferable homers)

I think the only team worse than Chip and Joe are the Nats. Santangelo is the worst in the entire world. He is worse than Colombian Soccer color men.

I like Joe and Don Sutton. The rest of the current Braves announcers.... Meh. Chip, wellllll, not so much.

I live outside of the radio area, but Sutton is great, I wish they swapped over in the 6th like the old days

Sutton and Powell are pretty good, while the TV broadcast leaves much to be desired. But really, who could truly take the place of Skip and Pete? God do I miss Skip and Pete.

My favorites outside the Braves are the Mets and Giants announcers. TV or radio.

Least favorite, the Nats broadcast. They are horrible.

Sutton would be great on TV. When doing radio PBP, he's pretty bad. I'm always lost when listening on the radio. He reacts to the play before telling the audience what actually happened. As a radio guy, IMO, you have two primary jobs - tell the listener what is happening as it happens, and update them regularly as to score, # of outs, situation, etc. Ease of listening is fine but it's clearly secondary to me. Sutton fails on the primary aspects of the job, IMO.

I feel for young fans that never got to experience the hilarious fun of Skip, Pete and Ernie. They made the awful years in the 80's worth tuning in.

My fave are the Mets and ,of course, Vin Scully for the Dodgers.

My ears are burning. How could I forget the father of baseball announcing, Mr. Scully?!? I've been listening to a lot of Dodger home games this year hoping to catch as much of him I can.

Powell and Sutton are both very good; Chip and Joe aren't quite at that level but are all right.

Skip, Pete, Sutton, and Joe were a great team; I can't forget Ernie's easy-going style either.

To repeat what's been said by others: the Nats crew are next-level unlistenable.

Hawk Harrelson says hi.

Hawk is a homer, but since he's in the AL central most around here probably don't care as much.
