Another blessing in the Freeman saga....

AA isn’t going to be taken lightly at the negotiating table ever again. He demonstrated balls of stone here. Do any of us REALLY like this? I kinda’ doubt it... I think most would agree that they feel sorry for Freddie, and then - at least for me....when I think about the sheer amount of money we are talking about, probably not so much.

very interesting how it will impact Swanson.

Swanson knows AA isn't overpaying b/c he's from ATL and loved.

Swanson has the same agency if not the same agent as FF....what is that going to be like. I wonder if that Correa story was planted for a reason.

The Correa story still seems improbable to me - if he wasn't going to overpay in years for the guy who was the face of the franchise and Chipper's buddy?

That said, if they're going to target a SS (other than Dansby) keep an eye on Bogaerts. Now that the Sox have signed Story, they likely don't intend to overpay Xander if he decides to opt out since they need to work out an extension for Devers. Bogaerts has already been paid relatively well once (he will have made over $83 million in his career after this year), and he might fit the shorter-term/higher AAV candidate profile better than Correa since he ought to come cheaper. Bogaerts isn't as good defensively as the other two, but he's much closer to Correa offensively than Dansby is.

Fun fact FWIW - Bogaerts and Chadwick Tromp are from the same hometown in Aruba.

Did we talk about the heyman tweet that Freddie deferral go away if he’s traded? So the dodgers can trade his 36 or 37 year old ass and save 50 million.

They could move him to the orioles and pay his entire salary the last year and save 50 million. I know they are rich. 50 million is still a lot. And not having almost 40 FF might also help.

Freddie and his reps really screwed the pooch. You would think this would cost Casey Close a lot of his clientele, but I bet it won't.

Pretty sure this tweet is more accurate. all deferred money has to be paid out then if traded.

I hope for his sake that is correct. I just saw the heyman tweet and a couple of videos saying it was true.

You know information on the internet....

Mlb contracts are fully guaranteed. So he will get it one way or the other. But freemans camp clearly botched this. He ****ed around and found out.

No that's a misread of the contract. The new team cannot defer any of his contract.

https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodg...ontract-includes-57-million-deferred-payments

"If Freeman is traded, his new team would not be able to defer any of the money he is still owed."

Basically the Dodgers will be stuck either sending cash to a team if they trade for Freeman or with Freeman for the life of his contract. It's almost a no trade clause for Freddie.
