Another reason I can't stand Bobby Cox!!!!

Not going to get bent about it. If he had quit right after the season, and we blindly supported Fredi, it would have been irritating.

Not sure Maddon would mesh well with our upper leadership.

The problem is with our upper management then

So we're going to blame Bobby Cox for Fredi Gonzalez not being fired in favor of hiring Joe Maddon.........................Even though nobody outside Tampa knew Maddon was available until about four hours ago.

Really? Come on now

I will

We put support behind fredi for no reason

Said it would be the new gms choice ( we still don't have one and seems we aren't going to get one either)

So, if bobby wasn't around and we fired fredi. We wouldn't hire a manager till after the World Series and joe maddon is sitting out there available

Instead we are stuck with fredi

Why would we have hired a manager after the Series? Did Texas wait to hire their new manager?

See who is available

it is absurd to not kick the tires with Maddon though

even dumber to just stay with Fredi for one more year to see how he does when Maddon becomes available.

There is a report that Maddon wants 5 years 25 million, so you can forget about him. Cubs have that type of money though.

Because BJ is the same player now as then, right?

2012 numbers as #2 hitter for Rays = .262 .312 .503 .815 Nearly a 30/30 season.
2011 numbers as #2 hitter for Rays = .356 .462 .644 1.106
2010 XXX Did not bat #2 XXX
2009 XXX Did not bat #2 XXX

So you are trying to justify Maddon using BJ Upton in the 2 hole when BJ still wasn't a great hitter in Tampa Bay. According to the stats guys, "The Book" says you hit your best hitter in the 2 hole. Was BJ Upton Tampa Bay's best hitter.

All of this love and adulation for a manager who as recently as last year's playoffs used Grant Balfour as his closer for a game because "He liked the karma he felt when he saw Balfour's grandparents in the hotel lobby." If Fredi had said that, he would have been crucified on here.

The only reason Joe Maddon has such a following by some on here is because he talks a good game when it comes to sabermetrics. He doesn't manage to the sabermetrics, but he does talk a good game.

I'm not clamoring for Maddon. I just want Fredi fired. Maddon would certainly be a better option, but I would rather go in a different direction.

And you don't have to hit your BEST hitter second. You just have to not hit your worst, something Fredi couldn't even manage to do. BJ played plenty well for the Rays to justify batting him second.

If goldfly whines about not having a general manager again, I'm going to begin wishing we had the ol' ban hammer.

Once more -- it's just a TITLE. The Braves went years without a formal GM, many teams still do. You have someone filling that role with another title. So what? You almost make it should like the Braves couldn't even talk trade with another team since there's no one wearing a "Hi! I'm the Braves' GM!" hat.

I'd say he's got a right to his opinion and it's probably a valid concern. The Braves seem to have chosen to be run by a comity which is very problematic. We need someone in charge so the "buck" can stop with someone. There's way too many cooks in the kitchen. JS loves Hart and Hart doesn't even want to be in charge so they're not accountable to anyone. Bobby seems to have some say in the coaching decisions and again is accountable to no one. Then you have Coppolella who's in an apprentice role and not making any decisions. It sounds like a mess. Every team needs a clear cut leader. In management AND on the field.
