Are the Braves as hopeless as it may seem?

Just curious would we still be in the same spot now if we had resigned Bourne or traded for revere/span instead of signing Bj? I'm assuming Justin doesn't come here and we have Prado at 3rd.

Bourn wanted too much at the time before he eventually signed but probably so.

This from a Talking Chop article (regarding Shelby Miller):

Wainwright had preached the need to develop a sinker, but Miller never found a comfortable grip until he was introduced to veteran pitcher Justin Masterson, who was acquired by the Cardinals on July 31.

After spending a couple of weeks toying with the two-seam grip used by Masterson, Miller routinely used it en route to a 2.08 ERA over his final seven regular-season starts, in which he limited opponents to a .190 batting average.

I really believe that people are underselling just how valueable of a piece Miller could be in the rotation next year. I think Minor will absolutely bounce back and you if you put a productive Miller in there then the Braves all of a sudden have a 1-4 that can stack up against any in baseball. Thats the recipe to winning a lot of games in the regular season. So with the anemic lineup I can still see mid 70's easily.

Someone needs to take that next step to legit ACE level. Whether it be Julio, Wood, or Miller.

I think both Teheran and Wood were ace level last year. They just need to continue to improve and show consistency.

Here are Miller's last 7 starts:

@Philly 6 IP, 2 bb, 3 K, 1 HR
ChC 7IP, 2bb, 3 K, 2 HR
Pit 7 IP, 3 bb, 5 k, 0 HR
@Cin 7 IP 0BB, 4 K, 0 HR
Col 6 IP 0 BB, 5 K, 0 HR
Mil 6 IP, 0 BB, 4 K, 0 HR
@Chc 4.1 IP, 2 BB, 8 K, 2 HR

43.1 IP, 9 bb, 32 K, 5 HR 3.85 FIP. Better than his season as a whole, but not too far off from his career average of 4.03.

I do think there is hope for Miller no doubt due to age. But, I've never been a big fan of his and I think even the Cards lost hope with the guy. Lets hope Roger can do some magic.
