Arizona Fall League Game Thread

Dylan Moore is having one hell of a stretch here in the AFL. I wonder if there's more to him than it seems.

Always have to take AFL numbers with a grain of salt. Big-time hitters' environment. There certainly looks like there's more to like than originally thought by some, but probably dangerous to get too excited just yet. Definitely worth keeping an eye on though IMO.

He can show some pop, draw a walk, and steal a base all while playing multiple positions. He definitely has some value as a utility player. That was a very good under the radar move by the Johns.

Yes, the AFL is hitter heavy... but he also tore it up with astronomical numbers in his short stints in both the Texas A+ club and our Carolina club. Just based off tool set and potential, he's got staying power and I think he could be more than just a utility player.

If you say that about every single marginal prospect, and then one eventually becomes a decent player, did you really predict anything? What about all the other Rob Whalens you were wrong about?

Hmmm... I did not know this...

"Dominican Winter League

On Saturday, Braves starting pitcher Matt Wisler pitched for the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League. He threw four innings, gave up two hits, no runs, no walks and had three strikeouts. I had not heard that Wisler would be pitching this fall/winter, but apparently he is. I’m guessing because of the season that he had, the Braves would like to see him continue to work on his pitches. During last offseason, Wisler worked with Tom Glavine on his changeup so maybe he’s spending time on the mound this offseason working on the same pitch. I think this is a great thing for Wisler and the Braves as he’s not a guarantee to be in the Braves rotation in 2017.

I'm simply talking about his minor league numbers and actual skill set. I didn't know we were supposed to close the book on Whalen after a handful of MLB starts. Oh that's right, no rookie pitchers have ever struggled. Thanks for reminding me. How am I wrong on Whalen when I simply said he has potential? I never said he would definitely succeed and I've never said Moore would either. I'm glad you're not in the FO and throwing these guys in the garbage before even looking at them considering marginal prospects turn into useful MLB players quite often.

And again, thanks for reminding me that discussing prospects on a fan forum is useless.

Did he say he was making a hard prediction? Or must we now make a firm statement on what a player will ultimately become before posting about them?

slow down ten speed...

Just think we will go one of two routes- sign crap and pretend to contend, or make a legitimate push to get better. I believe they want to make a splash. I think they trade from depth to do this. Young SP, MI, and CF I think could all be traded from the system.

Just speculating of course, not even saying I'm a proponent of this.

we have the depth.. I just don't think they trade their #2 prospect just yet. if you want to call it pretending to compete, then I am fine with that. I still think we need one more season to see where true holes lie..

It would go directly against everything Coppy has said.

I'm cautiously optimistic with Demeritte. I absolutely loved the deal, but I think he could be fantastic for us. I don't want to get my hopes up, but he could be the perfect 4 or 5-hole hitter in the future.
