Yeah but that OBP is pretty low at 319. Plus add in the Coors effect. Not hard to see. Heywards WRC+ is higher than Arenado. Areando is also a below average base runner. You have to look at everything.
 
It should be Harpers award but you have to wonder if Cespedes is going to get the Chipper vote here. Voters love hitters that goes insane during the stretch run and lead their team to a division title.

still amazes me that a guy having a season that good isn't as valuable as Heyward, especially coming from 3B.

Yeah, and he plays great defense at 3B, a premium position. It's not like he's hitting .250 with 39 homers, either. Tons of XBH, so high SLG. wOBA is higher than Heyward's. Doesn't strike out a ton. Maybe RF is weaker than 3B this year overall so Heyward is getting a big boost?

And looking at stats: Frazier has a higher WAR and wRC+ than Arenado. But why? He has:

less HRs
less runs
less RBI
more walks, but Ks more
lower avg, obp, slg, wOBA and ISO.
hasn't been as good defensively
yet, he has a higher WAR. idk, just doesn't always make sense to me.

WOBA doesn't account for him playing in Coors. It's like comparing raw OPS. And I don't think you are putting enough weight into Nolan's OBP. It's sub 300 on the road and overall it's almost 40 points lower than Heywards. That's a big deal. Also the coors effect is really big. He is a 123 WRC+ hitter at home and 114 on the road. Those aren't bad by any means but he's a huge slugging guy that doesn't walk a lot. These types of guys tend to be overrated due to homerun totals.

And a lot of those things you listed about Frazier really don't matter or simply included into other things. Frazier is a 120 WRC+ hitter while Arenado is at 118. And while Frazier is a tick worse defensively he's also a tick better at base running. So yeah it makes sense that he has a 0.1 higher war. But they have essentially been the same player. Low OBP, high SLG, good defenders.

You're right. Fredi deserves a little mercy. We didn't pour THAT much value into Olivera and I mean, he COULD be hurt at any point - so it's technically saving an asset, right?
 
Hmm, this is a little unusual. There's not much to gain by dumping him after rosters have expanded. They must really want him out of that clubhouse.
