Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Jennry Mejia has been suspended for 80 games for Stanozolol. Seems pitchers are getting suspended left and right

Seems all are Spanish. You wonder if they don't know better, or possibly targeted? Weird.

Heyward. Nationals. Heyward. Nationals. When Heyward signs with the Nationals next year this place is going to ****ing implode. :Alone:

Unless their owner gave Rizzo an unlimited spending, i honestly doubt that.

I think every PED suspension handed out so far this year has been for Stanozolol.

Yep. I'm guessing they'll discover a link between them all and blow another scandal wide open. Hopefully it's a smaller one this time.

For his part, Mejia expressed bewilderment at the positive test in a statement released by the MLBPA, one that also included his apology:

“I know the rules are the rules and I will accept my punishment, but I can honestly say I have no idea how a banned substance ended up in my system … I have been through a lot in my young career and missed time due to injury. I have worked way too hard to come back and get to where I am, so I would never knowingly put anything in my body that I thought could hold me out further.

“I am sorry to the Mets organization, my teammates and the fans, as well as my family.”

Mejia's statement echoes that of Santana, who after being suspended on April 3 said, “I am frustrated that I can't pinpoint how the substance in question entered my body. I would never knowingly take anything illegal to enhance my performance.”

After a decent opening night our old friend Heyward has been pretty awful to start the season. Maybe we can sign him at Markakis prices next year!

But if he's that bad, why would we want him back?

I think he is going to be pressing to have a good year. I like Jason a lot and would welcome him back to the team but the numbers people are throwing around because of WAR are insane. Jason is a great defensive player but has never been a good hitter.

Yes, he's great defensively, but how many more great defensive years does he have left? He's a big guy and all of that running at full speed then diving is going to catch up to him soon.
Let's face it, even if he has a worse year offensively than last year, there will be at least a couple teams willing to give him a 8+ year contract worth at least 20 million/year based on potential.

They're missing Rendon, Werth and Span but they still have Ramos, Harper, Zimmerman, Desmond, Escobar.

They'll probably get on a roll once they're healthy but always good to see the media darlings lose.

Even with injuries there lineup is better than ours from a talent standpoint. That's just an excuse. Plus the have a rotation that is G0D form!

Talk about revisionist history. He was indeed a good hitter in 2010, 2012, and 2013. Poor in 2012 and average in 2014.

Let's not confuse not being good with not living up to the hype potential that he had.

Yes, you are right. He has had some good seasons. But overall, he has not put it together.

I guess I still have to keep reshaping my expectations of a good hitter. I'd lstill love Heyward back next season.

Overall he has a career WRC+ of 117. That is good. You of all people who have championed how offense is now and is going to be in the future should understand what a good hitter looks like now.

I like that Heyward has the ability to make contact. I've always wanted Heyward to stay I just never believed the salary numbers being thrown around for him were what he deserved.

I havent seen anyone post his K rate. How do if know if hes a good hitter or not?

I guess that's relative then. Because if a team gives it to him and multiple teams have the close to the same offer then does he deserve it? I mean you've also said not to pay a player on what he has done instead on what he will do. You'd have to think someone in their late 20's when they get to their prime will play better.
