Around Baseball 2015 Edition

What the h*ll happened to Saltalamacchia?

That one has me scratching my head; its not like the Marlins have good options unless they have a catching prospect to call up.

2011- 1.6 WAR

2012- 1.9 WAR

2013- 3.6 WAR

2014- 1.4 WAR

And you cut him after 9 games? I wonder if Boston will bring him back for essentially free.

Career numbers bro.

Haha, lets really take something out of his rookie season when he was 22. Miller has never had a start to the season like this and its not even close. This is a young pitcher with worlds of talent "getting it". I know you odn't want to admit it or want to see it but its happening.

Because Giles and I have both said Wandy has been the better pitcher over their careers and yeezus disagreed.....thought that was obvious.

That fine, but the Braves picked Stults for a specific reason and I can't say I disagree with them. This year doesn't matter. They just wanted guaranteed innings.

Why do we care about career stats right now? Would you bet a bunch of money on Wandy staying healthy this year? What about Stults?

I never mentioned career, but since Wandy was better 6 years ago, it matters A LOT right now.

(it's not fine because that's not what I said, at all).

Point is, it makes sense to choose one guy over another when one has thrown 379.2 innings the last two years, and another has thrown 101. Over 3.5 times the innings, and with similar numbers. Not rocket science. When you want to preserve arms, choose the option that looks more reliable for innings.

Don't FIP and xFIP, your holy grail when they suit you, adjust for parks?

How many IP has Wandy had the last two years? Or does health not matter suddenly?

No, FIP does not account for ballparks at all.

xFIP attempts to, but all they really do is normalize the HR/Flyball ratio.

Either way, Wandy is superior in both.

Barely (in recent history, not in 2009 lmao).
And he's FAR FAR FAR inferior the last few seasons in reliability. Continue to ignore it as if it didn't heavily factor into the decision (and for good reason).

Cool, really pumped for his 180 innings of ****ty pitching! But the Braves wanted him so I can't question it!

WELL ACTUALLY............

It does

We traded for all this young pitching and 2-3 of them are expected to be ready at some point this year. So why wouldn't you take the better pitcher over the course of their careers and if he gets hurt you have the young kids to fall back on? We aren't making the playoffs and even if you want to play devils advocate and say we do, if you're counting on Stults in the playoffs then I have nothing to say.

The value of those innings for this organization for this year is invalueable. It doesn't matter if its a 5 ERA. Do you not understand this?

They took guaranteed innings so the kids would not be rushed. It was a sound strategy.

ok, so the Braves choose Stults because Wandy was injured in 2013 and 2014. If that's more important to them than ability, then sobeit, that's their call to make.

You want to promote the kids when they are ready and not when they are forced to. A Wandy injury could prove detrimental to Wislers development. Stop being so obtuse about this.

Its clear the Braves aren't eyeing 2015 to make the playoffs. They wanted INNINGS and in that respect Stults is a FAR better pitcher than Wandy if we are going by recent history.

In a year where wins and losses don't matter it absolutely is more important.

That's beyond dumb on sooooooooooo many levels. Lets pick two worse pitchers in Stults and Cahill because they won't get hurt and they will pitch!!!

How about you go find guys that can pitch 180 innings and not suck? Crazy idea, right?

Folty is already up.....obviously your reasoning isn't correct.

You don't think they could round up 350 innings or so with Wandy/Cahill/Minor/Wang/Banuelos/Foltynewicz?

Well Wandy is a very unsure bet to pitch 180 innings so I guess he is out of the equation.

So, is Folty ready?

and no, he's not.
