Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Folty already has major league service time and is older. As I said in a previous post I'm not sure if he is ready and he may have been rushed because the bullpen was getting taxed.

So much reaching.........

He had 18 innings of MLB experience coming into the year, none of those innings were as a starter.

No, I don't make conclusions based on 1 month into the season like you and thethe. If Miller can somehow be a number 2/3 type starter and Heyward fails to improve on hitting, it's a clear win for us. But, its way too early to make concrete statements on that. Miller is pitching better than expected and Heyward is hitting worse than expected, at the moment.

Sample size apparently means nothing to you.

Yet this whole thing started because Wandy had one good start (and two terrible ones previously). Stults has been better for 2 years.

Regarding Wandy versus Stults . . .

If you need a guy to help you win a game tomorrow: Wandy > Stults.

If you need a guy to help you win a game a month or two from now: Stults > Wandy.

You are impossible to talk to. There is no way that they could have predicted that Folty was going to start to dominate the second they taught him a new pitch. He exceeded their time table.

Stults was the right choice in so many ways but you all are searching for reasons to bash the front office because you look foolish for everything that was said in the offseason.

Just looked at Heyward's stats from the first month of the season last year and he put up a 609 OPS. At the end of the year he had a 735 OPS and was a 5ish WAR player as a result of his strong defense and baserunning.

I still think this trade is likely to be a win-win if Walden's injury ends up being minor.

and yet no one said anything about recently until wandy had a good start. we didn't hear a peep when he had 8 BB in 9.1 IP. i wonder why.

Good grief, you cry over everything. Its a message board, someone brought it up and thus it was discussed.

Whether Wandy gives up 1 run in his next outing or 100, he's still a better pitcher.

I'm "crying," or making a counterpoint? I'm not against it being discussed; saying it was a no-brainer to keep Wandy is foolish at best, though. And Wandy is a more talented pitcher, sure, but he's pitched 100 overall bad ML innings the last two years whule Stults has pitched over 3.5x more than that in that same frame, with similar results. Is the concept of reliability in pitching new to you? Hell, if we're going on who's better when healthy, why isn't Ben Sheets our 5th man? What about Prior? Kerry Wood?

And you said "sample size obvs means nothing to you lolll" which is quite ironic seeing as how this particular conversation came up when wandy had ONE good start, when before that he had 8 BB in 9.1 IP.

Yeah, Heyward is pounding the ball into the ground right now and that can change and when it does he'll see a performance uptick.

I may be one of the only ones, but I was never wild about Walden. Good pitcher, but seems to get dinged up more than his fair share.

And my point still stands: before last night, these same people saying it was no-brainer to keep WANDY RODRIGUEZ, he of the 100 IP in the last two years club, would have been critical if we did keep him and he had 8 BB in 9.1 IP and Stults was doing what he was doing (as he's been decent, average).

We're still talking about Heyward's offensive potential when he's about to become a high paid FA. Thinking about it like that, I laugh.

League average starter:

7.4 k/9, 2.7 bb/9, 0.99 HR/9, 3.82 ERA, 3.91 FIP, 3.77 FIP

Stults:

4.6 k/9, 2.15 bb/9, 1.53 HR/9, 4.91 ERA, 5.02 FIP, 4.55 xFIP

While it's dumb to judge stats on a handful of starts at the beginning of the year, it's also even more dumb to claim Stults has been decent, average.

And just to point out, in an more offensive environment (AL), Wandy has superior numbers.
