Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Based on where the teams were I can definitely see how Rasmus would have made more sense.

I still like the Markakis signing and think he will be an effective player until the end of the deal.

Markakis is gonna be a turd by the end of the deal. He's already not great, about a 1/4 of the way through the season, Markakis is at a 0.3 fWAR, his defense is as I said it would be, not very good. His offense is about where we'd expect it. And I can't see it improving from here too much, I can only see things going downhill. As his batspeed drops he'll lose either his plate discipline or his power even more. His grounders will be weaker, his liners will be grounders and his fly ball will be popups. I fully expect given what we've seen from him, that by year 4 he'll be BJ bad.

I would flip my **** if the Braves some how got Heyward back. It's the only thing that could unite the board at this point. He truly is the Chosen One

Not a chance. The type of hitter Markakis is leads to a much slower degradation of skills.

He will not be a negative at any point in the deal.

I wouldn't mind Heyward back. I just wouldn't pay him the absurd amounts that some posters on this board wanted to pay him and what he valued himself at.

Heyward at 15 per year seems about right to me.

Heyward at 15 per year seems about right to me.

Unless Heyward has a hot streak at some point this year and shows that he can reach his offensive ceiling, then I don't think he gets 15 million per year. It really seems the industry as a whole has soured on Heyward as a whole this year.

Assuming 7 mil per WAR he would need to be a 1.6 WAR player, he's not trending that way yet. And do you think things will get better as the season wears on?

I'm not 100% sure if Markakis will ever be a positive player for us. I think him not living up to his contract may just be a thing we deal with. Will he be a SVOD like BJ? Probably not for a few years, but based on what we've seen of his power, it looks like he won't be much offensively and he's not great defensively, so what do we have to get excited about?

Except for a Tyrell Jenkins and Kelly Johnson for Jason Heyward trade.

I still think a team will give him maybe a shorter deal at that rate. I'd still be interested in him at that money. I expect him to produce by the end of the season.

I would love to get Heyward back. I mean, he's an ATL boy... this is where he belongs. But, I wouldn't overpay for him and his flaws are becoming more and more obvious.

The Markakis signing just kills me. He will likely be a bench player in 2017. He is not going to be good. His defense is atrocious

Heyward will get 15M a year. There's no way he doesn't. I think this year stops him from approaching being a 200M dollar signing which I think he was on his way towards if he improved on last year, but Heyward will get 15M a year. Melky signed for 3 years at about 15M per year. He's much older, has steroid issues, and a way lower ceiling than Heyward. I think he signs for 5/90 or within a 2 million per year range of that if I had to take a guess. It would have him getting paid now, but he still can get a second free agent contract so if he performs as he should, he can get paid then.

Basically what a lot of us said in the offseason. Nobody wanted to see Heyward go but it seems many were blinded by his WAR numbers (which is a reason I don't base the relative value of a player on this stat).

Given his defense, what do you think he'd have to hit to stay in the realm of the positive?

I think he will moved to LF soon and a better defensive player will be brought in to play RF. Maybe when Mallex comes up they stick Maybin in right. Shade the defense towards LF and help out Nick.

I think Nick will get on base around a 36-37% clip for his whole career with the Braves.

It's very possible he's at least still a solid hitter by the end. Far from a guarantee, but possible.

Dude, what?

He went from a 300 hitter and a 800+ OPS guy to a 270 hitter and a 690-720 OPS guy in ONE year. He fell off a ****ing cliff....

He's also a 0 from a power standpoint this year...

If th eBraves don't take their BJ/Kimbrel money and Sign Jason/Justin we're ****ed.

If our outfield in 2017 is Maybin, Mallex, Markakis, we're ****ed.

And I wouldn't bet on a .360-.370 OBP from Markakis. 4 years before this year he was at .351/.363/.329/.342

Wasn't he hurt in 2013? Either way...I like what I see how out of Markakis and think his skills will continue as he gets towards the end of the contract.

I'd love to get Justin back. I also don't think the Braves would be "boned" if they don't get one of those guys. Braves are going to get an upgrade at both 2B & 3B next year and CF could potentially be an upgrade. Have to figure out the catching position because CB hasn't shown anything yet.

I think the pitching is going to be MUCH better next year which includes the bullpen.

I think we'll trade one of Folty/Wisler + something for a big time RF prospect. I think we'll move Markakis to LF.

2016: Marky, Maybin, new RF
2017: Marky, Smith, new RF
2018 D. Peterson, Smith, new RF--------------Last year of Marky is a huge waste of money.
