Around Baseball 2015 Edition

I don't think the Braves would move Folty just yet. The potential is just too great.

I disagree with you about his great potential. I like Wisler better than him. Further, if we could get Lucroy for a package similar to that we got back for Gattis it would be like we traded Gattis for him. That is a great deal IMO.

Fair enough...you have seen Wisler more than I have obviously. I just think Folty is that type of power arm that with slightly more refinement could be a legit #1.

I am not saying he doesn't have potential to be good and improve, I just think you overstate it and lean more towards Kyle McDaniels original take on him. Plus I cannot argue with Gov's take on him either as friends in Houston told me they saw the same and I haven't seen any different so far. Further, I am not saying Wisler will be any better than most say he could turn into. I just like his potential better than Folty, that's all. They both could not work out in the long run. That is why I don't get folks that value them more that Alex Wood who is already proven and very good IMO. If Wood had a catcher like Lucroy he could be a lot better too IMO.

I wouldn't trade Miller or Alex Wood, I'd build around them and Teheran. I would trade someone like Folty in a package for Lucroy.

With all this pitching we have, we're going to have to trade someone eventually.

Not anytime soon, plus we could extend both Miller and Wood if we wanted. And I am obviously higher on Wood than you, simple as that. Further, I'd argue it makes more sense to trade one of our starting pitching prospects and build around Miller, Wood and Teheran. We won't have room for all of them (Perez, Man-Ban, Folty, Wisler, etc) in the rotation anyway. We may want to sign another pitcher this off-season too.

Just not sure it makes sense to hand out long contracts to pitchers. I would just try to keep on recyling the talent every three years and ensure that they come in waves.

It doesn't have to be about that, I was thinking more about buying out arbitration years if you think it will save considerable money. It makes sense to do that with Miller after this season if he has a big year IMO.

Maybe I'm just buying into all the stories about Woods delivery and its scaring me off because I would absolutely love to extent Miller 2 years into his FA.

Given all the pitching we have, i'd be surprised if we signed a SP this offseason.

There's dangers with a lot of pitchers, but that same delivery is a part of his deception and success along with why he fell in the draft to us. Alex Wood isn't a free agent till 2020 so he is under control a while, if he's as good as I think he'll be going forward I'd certainly look into buying out at least some of his arbitration years. But he's not even arbitration eligible till 2017 so there is no rush to decide with him. We have less time on Miller of course.

Wood has maybe the funkiest mechanics in the majors. THat doesn't necessarily mean bad mind you. Funky can just be funky. Miller and Wood though are perfect examples of guys you sell high on. Pitchers in general unless you have a freak, are tradable commodities. Teams want them, but they prefer them established.

Imagine Miller finishes this year with like a 2.5 ERA. His value would be insane. I don't think it's out of th erealm we could permanently address our 3B situation with Donaldson or Longoria and get another prospect in the middle of it as well. It would take the right partner and you don't just give him away, but if a team blows down your door you say yes immediately without giving them a second chance to think.

I am not saying we'll sign a Price or Grienke, but I do see us adding some veteran depth at least.

If you mean like a Wandy/Stults/Cahill type reclamation project types, i can see that.

Agree we wont be in on Price, Greinke, Cueto, Zimmerman, etc.

If Miller is a legit ace, i'm not sure you trade those types.

There's maybe 10-12 legit aces in all of baseball, they are far and few between.

Based on what I've seen this year I'm not trading Shelby Miller.

Short of Kershaw and King Felix, I consider no pitcher untradable. I would have guys as less inclined to trade but again, if we could turn Miller into Donaldson and a prospect you'd actually say no?

That is not going to be a trade available to us so it seems foolish for me to respond. Would I trade Miller for Trout? Obviously, but any realistic trade is not one I would make.
