Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Jair consistently outperfomed his FIP. The knee injury cost him his career.

JT will bounce back, and of his last 2 starts ate any indication, then it's likely he's started the turn around. I still say finishes with an ERA right at or possiby below 3.00

He did it twice in 4 full seasons.

I would definitely give him 22 per year. That would not be a waste of money at all!

I dont see that happening unfortunately but he'd be a perfect fit.

Mainly because he trains in Arizona.

I think the bidding is going to start at 8 years 200 million and probably end around 10 years 250 million. 8 years would take him through his age 35 season. I think I would do 8/200. Maybe be aggressive as soon as FA starts make him a big offer to let him know we want him back. I don't think he harbors any ill will towards the braves. If we were the cellar dweller some thought we would be I would say there's no chance he comes back.

The thing that worries me about Justin is his deteriorating defense. If he is this bad at 27 will he be a DH by 33.

If the Padres fall way out of the race it will be interesting to see what they get for Upton if they decide to trade him.

I didn't think all those trades this past off-season were enough to make them a playoff team, so far it seems that will be the case. But there is a long ways to go so maybe they can turn things around.

How disappointing would that be for them if they don't resign Upton?

Their whole rebuild effort is thrown away if he leaves them. That team isn't very good without him.

If they miss the playoffs as I expect and don't re-sign him they could end paying a big price for possibly a similar record than ours. Right now we're looking better than them, though I am not saying that will continue.

Same here, if he continues his decline on defense he could be pretty bad by then. Plus we will need to move Markakis to LF sooner rather than later.

Im hoping we get a couple this winter or if not, just go with Markakis, Mallex, Maybin left to center to right.

Still some decent outfield bats sans Justin/Jason.

Pretty bad especially since they traded a decent amount for Kimbrel as well.

Their pitching has been really unlucky with the homerun ball which should improve, but they are so terribly defensively and that doesn't look like it's improving any time soon.

I didn't like how they built that team. I think their situation was entirely predictable. Preller was completely wreckless with how he put that team together.

Same here, you may recall that I said I expect poor defense to be a big issue for them and so far that's been true. It just goes to show how important defense is, but we saw that big time from the Royals in last year's playoffs. The Royals amazing defense really kept them in a lot of games.

I thought it may happen, but I am doubtful now. I just can't see him wanting to come back here. And besides, cleaning the Uptons out of the clubhouse seems to not be a bad thing. And the Diamondbacks and Braves both have given him to other teams despite his stats. Point is, he may not be worth it at any price.

If J. Upton doesn't end up in the AL East (thinking NYC or Boston), I will be pretty surprised. If fact, I think both Heyward and J. Upton will be in the AL East; one on the Yankees and one on the Red Sox.

If we were an AL team I'd be much more interested paying a lot to sign Justin long-term because you can DH him if his defense declines a lot. He makes a lot of sense for AL teams that need a right handed hitting power bat.

They got all of those OF but refused to give up Renfroe....so not sure what their long term plan is. I thought we'd get him for Kimbrel since they have all of those OFs, but I guess he's Upton insurance.

No....No no. He's so streaky and defense is so bad. And I don't think he'd come after his brother ruined the era.

I'd do more if I could get a short term deal. With the Braves current payroll I think I'd consider 2/50 if we get team option for 20 after it. I'd worry about giving him 20+ million for 5+ years like he's going to get.

Agreed. It would be great to get a big RH bat, but I'd settle for a medicore hitter with plus defense. With our pitching on the come-up, better defense at C, 3B, and LF could put this team in a surprisingly good position next year.

If that's the case....
CB full time at C
Cunnigham full time at LF
Peterson full time at 3B

Do we make the playoffs? I think Peterson, Simmons, Peraza, FF would be a very good infield. Up the middle with CB, Simmons, Peraza, and Maybin is really good.

I still think we need people to slug 0.450 or better. Not just FF.

I have no idea if that type of defensive team would win. I don't think they'd do well in the playoffs. But they might win enough to get there.
