Around Baseball 2015 Edition

I think an easy solution is that batters can wear armor, but if they're hit by a pitch while wearing it, they aren't awarded first base.
Then you create a situation where players are incentivized to not wear elbow and shin guards (most players where shin guards). Less padding = more injuries.

I don't think I like the idea of opening up that can of worms. I don't trust umpires to get the balls/strikes correct, let alone judgement calls based on intent.

I wouldnt be against a rule that called it simply ball/Strike if batter clearly leaned as long as there was no doubt. I also dont think batters have obligation to get out of the way.

I dont reallly like the Craig Biggio stand on top of plate with armor and lean in and that might mitigate it some.

I don't like it either obviously, but I think that's a difficult call to make in real time. I'm also not a fan of making something like that reviewable. I honestly don't think this is something that's that big of a deal that needs to be addressed.

Def not reviewable. I do think thr 2B umpire has a pretty clear view of it. Hard for homeplate ump to see. (Like how I believe the 1/3 umps should always call swing or no swing).

The walks is the strange part. Guy always was a tough AB.

That is the strange part. Still a WRC+ of 116 in May and 119 in June so far. Slightly less than what he did in 2012 and 2013. I think that's about his base level right now. Hopefully he can get that homerun struck back. And whatever caused him to have a slow start defensively is gone now too it seems.

Defense is not going to be a problem for Heyward for the next 3-5 years.

Walk rates for hitters need a bigger sample to stabilize. Changes in strikeout rates are more meaningful at midseason in terms of telling u something about how the second half is going to go.

Beachy update.

Brandon Beachy done after 2 innings in first rehab outing with OKC. Line: 2.0 IP, H, BB, 3 K. 45 pitches/26 strikes.

Not surprising Heyward is hitting well, was only a matter of time, and of course, contract year, ya know.

That's been his MO since like, forever.

Hit like BJ Upton for the first couple of months.

Hit like Justin Upton (with less power) for the next month or so.

End up as a league average or slightly above hitter.

I don't see how anyone could have expected anything different. Jason is what he is.
