Peter Gammons with a gushing read on the Braves: http://www.gammonsdaily.com/peter-gammons-schuerholz-hart-and-braves-keep-eyes-on-the-future/

Buck Showalter likens Hart to a cinematic character, calling him “a man’s man who never backs down.” That character has pulled in five first round picks to the pitching base, assembled three-quarters of one of the best infields in the National League, and, 14 years removed from winning a post-season series, has the Atlanta Braves poised to roll into their new ballpark in a pitching and financial position they haven’t been in since the glory days of three Hall of Fame pitchers who were “The Braves Way.”

I would agree. Since the decision to re-build was made, I think Hart's done a great job of acquiring talented youngsters. I wish there was some more offense acquired, but I can't complain too much.

I still don't necessarily agree with the original decision though... and the Markakis contract

Heyward now has 1.5fWAR vs Markakis' 1.2.

Heyward is at 107wRC vs Markakis' 109.

Heyward OPS is .749 vs Markakis .740

The fact that Heyward is even close to Markakis after Heywards April is pretty amazing.

May : 663 vs 783
June : 761 vs 885

And as a reminder... our good friend thethe referred to Heyward's offense last year as "a joke"

Yet - his offense last year is better than what Markakis is producing this year - whom thethe "loves"

Thanks for this. Hart should get votes for executive of the year.

Thethe loves his sexy 354 SLG%

a couple of 0-fors by Heyward and he's right back down.

I expected Heyward to produce over the course of the season so this is not surprising. I just find it funny the timing of peoples postings.

Irregardless of what Heyward produces this year the Braves are better off with the yields from the trade.
