Urais could be great.. but unknown.. Madea was great in Jpn.. but who knows.. Ryu coming back from shoulder surgery is a scary prop.

Sure they have depth, but not quality, proven depth. They have the money and talent to trade for another starter sure.. but would another starter be enough. they still have the problem of getting the ball to Kenley.. and what is his head like. they basically traded for another closer, which, If I remember correctly, pissed him off.. I think the Dodgers are in for a rocky season...

Whether people agree with you or not, I'm with you. I loved having Alex, but we traded him for a reason. We trusted him, but obviously not that much.

I'm not saying everything is going to go right for them, but they don't need it to. They have enough depth and talent everywhere else where having average starting pitching 2-5 would be enough (at least for the regular season). Is it possible that all of their options blow up in their face? Sure, but I don't think it's that likely.

I don't see great things for them either.

I still think teams can ignore the chemistry factor too much. I think the Nats did it, and I think the Dodgers are doing it, too.

Kershaw, Alex Gonzalez, Chase Utley, Kendrick, etc. have all been lauded as great clubhouse guys in the past. They even hired a manager who was maybe the best clubhouse guy when he was a player. What are you basing that claim off of? Puig?

I don't think we are really disagreeing to an extent. I think they will be fine and will probably trade for something by the deadline.. I am just saying that as a fan, if the Braves had a 250+ million dollar payroll and that was my potential starting rotation.. I might be a bit upset and nervous going into a season that we were supposed to be contending. That being said, the Dodgers have that luxury to see how the chips fall then make moves with the resources they have.

That's a misnomer though because their rotation isn't expensive. It's their position players. If they signed all of the players everyone wanted them to sign their payroll would be closer to $300 million (and exceed it due to the luxury tax).

How much of that is the starting rotation? They have a pretty expensive bullpen. What starting pitchers on their team are overpaid?
Kershaw makes 34.6 million - Probably a bargain
Anderson makes 15.8 million - worth it
Kazmir makes 12.7 million - worth it
Ryu makes 7.8 million - reasonable and huge bargain if he's healthy
Maeda makes 3.1 million - super good bargain
Beachy makes 1.8 million - peanuts

I missed McCarthy, but that happens. If he was healthy that would have been a really good contract.

we can just disagree on everyone after Kershaw..

For a team with a $250m payroll, that is simply pitiful.

Are you suggesting they have $300 million payroll and have Grienke and David Price?

Like, I get the impression that the people who criticize the Dodgers are disappointed they don't spend more money.

No, I just feel like they spent recklessly and have little to show for it. I think the Giants are several klicks ahead and the D-Backs are at least even with them.

They've got some good kids coming up but that could take some time to jell.

I wouldn't say Friedman spent wrecklessly, perhaps Colleti. I think Friedman has been pretty responsible considering he has the keys to the kingdom.

I agree. He was told to cut budget and he did. Just don't see that team as a serious contender. So what was their goal. Save money or win.

I think they're absolutely a contender. You can find another SP and bullpen help later if you need it. I think Puig will bounce back to at least a 3-4 WAR player, I think Seager is going to be really good right away. Their lineup is going to be really good. Kershaw is Kershaw, and Kazmir is a good #2.

Their lineup is quite good, I really like Seager. That non-Kershaw pitching tho...

Yeah, they're washing out Colletti. He's one of those GMs who's better with a tight budget than a pocket full of money.

We had a guy like that, come to think of it.

Smoothie.. you and I usually don't disagree too much.. but saying Kazmir is a good #2 is just wrong. He is a career 4 ERA and although looked better the last 2 years is sitting at 32 and I has never topped 200 innings. #3 starter... yes.. but not a good #2..

I like Seager too.. but I have this feeling for some reason he is going to be the next Frenchy. I will probably be wrong.. so no need to blast me for saying that.. just a feeling I get watching him..

I think they have some questions. They are weak at Catcher and the outfield still has issues. Puig and Joc need bounce back seasons.. Crawford is starting to get up in age and only played in 70 games.. they have Either (I think?) and Van Slyke, so maybe Either will start over Crawford or they will platoon all 5.. It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers gel this season. I still think they hover around .500 through the 1st half and they will be forced to make a move at the deadline.

that Pen and starting quality is going to be a torn in the side this year.
