Around Baseball

You must be doing something wrong he's 17th on the team at .589, although a few of the guys ahead of him are not on the active roster right now. Stanton and Logan Morrison are over .800

Ive done nothing wrong, blame ESPN. Maybe they don't have enough at bats to qualify?

We're the first team to win 13 in a row since the 2002 A's who won 20 in a row, and there might be two teams get to 13 in a row basically at the same time.

Quick mini-power rankings check? I really don't know how I'd rank these teams, but I feel they're clearly the best in baseball right now:

Red Sox
Rays
Tigers
Braves
Pirates
Cardinals
Dodgers

I'm hesitant to list 7 teams but there really might be that many legit WS contenders this year. I feel like the Cardinals are the most likely to regress, despite great pitching, because they were hitting at such an absurd clip with RISP all season.

Gun to my head?

Now, if you are going to tell me that Justin Upton is going to go all "Actober" on us...then I put the Braves number 1. He is THAT important.

I want to keep thinking the Red Sox are a little overrated and there isn't a ton of talent on their roster, but they keep winnings and it appears I could be totally wrong. Anyone else feel like this, and is there any basis for it to anyone else?

Even if he isn't THIS good the rest of the year/playoffs, as long as he is not terrible and playing just well instead of amazing, then we are a GREAT team. Think about it, we've led the division ALL YEAR with BJ, Heyward, and Justin playing really bad for months at a time (and for a time there, ALL at ONCE). If they could just turn around that awful suckage (which they can and have with how talented they are) we are dangerous.

I will say this, if Heyward and Upton are playing/hitting like this come late September and early October heading into the playoffs, I wouldn't want to play us. That's a pretty scary 1-4 (including Freeman and McCann) if Heyward and JUpton are on. The Tigers are pretty damn scary and want to rank them #1. They've got a deep rotation anchored by Scherzer and Verlander, and a lineup anchored by the best hitter in baseball and Fielder. Don't know how much I trust the Dodgers offense, but when you've got a two-headed monster of Kershaw and Greinke anchoring your rotation, you're going to be a tough out in a short playoff series.

I get what you're saying, and agree to an extent, but we were leading our division all year despite all that because our division is terrible. So even when we had to play divisional opponents, they weren't good enough to kick us while we were down.

Of course we've been really good against the best teams this year, so I could just be talking out of my ass.

right, we've still been good against good teams and were playing terrible and still holding our heads above water.

Gotta say...I think Lincecum's stuff is looking pretty nasty lately...he was throwing one serious hook against the Brewers today.

Texas acquires Alex Rios.

Nice pickup, could help a bit with Cruz out.

Philly DFA's Delmon Young.

First August trade goes down. Rangers get OF help in Alex Rios. Pretty good move for them after the loss of Cruz.
