Marlon Byrd has been claimed:

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York hears that Marlon Byrd was claimed off revocable waivers.

The Mets now have 48 hours to work out a trade with the claiming team. It was previously believed that the Mets preferred to keep Byrd for the rest of the season, but Rubin reported early Tuesday morning that the team is preparing for the possibility of multiple trades within the next couple of days.

NL team is the claimant . Might be Pitt

Thought Braves already claimed Lohse and Brewers refused to work out a trade deal for him.

That did happen, that was just my example, someone who other teams may not be willing to take a gamble on being stuck with their salary. Low risk guys will likely all be claimed.

All of this waiver wire crap just irks me. I wish they'd just flush it and move the trade deadline to August 31 for players traded to be eligible for post-season play and no need of a 'waiver wire'. So far the Braves have gotten Downs (good), Johnson (bleh) and Garcia (double bleh). They claimed Lohse who then wasn't traded and haven't been in on anyone else. With Heyward injured (after the trade deadline I remind you), they could have used Byrd but the silly waiver wire rules probably mean that some other team claimed him before us. This waiver wire mess just makes my skin hurt. :mad0182:

Until it has some kind of salary cap or spending allowance, MLB will never be "fair and equal". Why try to be equitable in waiver wire trade deals? Braves play by the rules and are getting burned by them. End rant. :mad0182:

We need to find the Cody Ross of 2013. Anyone with information on who that might be please contact Frank Wren.

Josh Willingham just got placed on waivers.

His Ks are up, but he's got a good walk rate and can explode at any moment if he gets into a groove. If we don't get Byrd (unlikely), I'd be ecstatic with Willingham (although he's still under contract for 7m or so next year.. he's tradeable at that price, though).

Would be an interesting situation for us if we took him on, although I'd think we might have to shy away since we have no spot for him next year and don't want to risk it.

The Mets will receive minor league shortstop Dilson Herrera and a player to be named later, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo (on Twitter).

Man, I hate this waiver wire crap. Pitt gets stronger in an area of need with a trade for a decent player simply because they (right now) have a few less wins than the Braves. With Heyward out, in two weeks Pitt could be ahead of us in wins! Braves weren't even allowed a chance to make a deal because of these rules. Just stinks, moreso because Heyward got injured between July 31st and August 31st!! :mad0182:

Looks like Jeff Locke is coming back to reality. ERA has risen a full point in a little over a month. 16 earned runs in his last 3 starts equaling a little over 11 innings. Wont be surprised if he finishes with an ERA over 4.
