Around Baseball

Wow, congrats to Tim. The Giants are not having a great season, and Lincecum has had better seasons, but tonight could be the highlight of 2013. Of course that's because Francoeur was called up.

locke and zimmerman out of the ASG
wainwright and wood pitch tomorrow.. who replaces them? and does a cub have to still be there since wood will be out?

I was fixin' to post the same thing. Maybe Minor gets one of the spots. He definitely deserves it.

Two words for Licecum...Johan Santana.

People say that but when Edwin Jackson threw 149 pitches in his no-no against the Rays when he was with the Diamondbacks he was fine after that. Also people keep bringing up the Santana situation and that was totally different. Santana was only a few starts back from major shoulder surgery and was still not 100% yet and that's the reason throwing that many pitches in 1 game all but ended his career. Lincecum has never had any sort of arm issues, at least none that I'm aware of. He should be fine. The Giants would be smart to give him a couple extra days of rest and with the ASG coming up they have the luxury to do that.

Posey would destroy our pitching staff. Always does.

Imagine him and Choo in the same lineup against us.

The NL West is crap, but unfortunately someone has to win that division. It's completely up for grabs at this point. If Colorado can add another starting pitcher I like their chances.

I don't know if Lincecum is 'back' but he does have a 3.34 FIP right now on the year which is pretty good. Obviously the era is not that good but his left on base % is fairly low from when he was winning cy youngs. So I'm thinking there is a play of bad luck in there right now. His K/9, BB/9, and HR/9 are all just slightly off from his career marks. I don't think he's going to be the guy we saw in 08 and 9 where he was the best pitcher in baseball but he's pitching a lot better than last year and feel he can still be very good.

Lincecum has been throwing the ball well and his splits are still very good. That said, I could see this start really hurting him the rest of the year. That is a lot of pitches for a max effort little guy.

I can't remember I saw a pitcher throw 148 pitches!
I only heard that this was "normal" in the early days!

As I mentioned earlier, Edwin Jackson threw 149 pitches in his no-hitter against the Rays several years ago.

He can just subtract some of the work from the following week. Considering the amount of throwing that is done between starts...this is not a big deal. Adjust accordingly with the side work.
