Around MLB 2016 style

Same with bWAR, though he is tied with Rizzo at 4.5. Goldschmidt is right behind at 4.4. The best in the AL is Cabrera at 4.2.

Horsehide Harry last year but has since relented.

I don't remember ever saying he was just league average. I have often said he wasn't a top five player at his position and generally placed him at 7 or 8 (my argument being that to be the true face of a franchise a player needed to be in the top 3 of his position in baseball. I would say that he is solidly in the top 5 NOW.

Right now, I would put Freeman in the top 5 probably at 5 behind Cabrera, Votto, Rizzo and Goldschmidt. I think he definitely belongs with that group and is pretty far ahead now of the next group of Encarnacion, Bour, Gonzalez, Abreu, Davis, Napoli and is light years ahead of guys like Moreland, Belt, Hosmer and Pujols.

In a year or two, with continued improvement and age catching a couple of guys, he could be top two.

Its honestly amazing he is having this type of year with no one having to throw him anything to hit.

Which is why the idea of protection is generally overstated. Pitchers aren't just going to pitch around you unless you are steroid Bonds.

The Brewers won the claim on Puig. Talks for a trade centered around Puig and Braun......interesting. I wonder if they will rehash those talks this offseason

Stately Plumpton having one of those stretches again; just smoked a three-run shot to put the Tigers up 5-2 on the Sox in the 11th.

If Upton could harness even a portion of his hot performances when he's not on one of his torrid streaks he'd easily be one of the best players in baseball.
