Around MLB 2016 style

Pods in sell mode. Still want to make a deal with them for Norris and Kemp. Markakis plus Ellis for those two.

Agreed, I'd probably do the trade if they took Markakis and we didn't give up much.

I think the Friars are ready to dump Kemp just to get Margot up. Have Renfroe and Margot up would be ideal.

But I am not sure Kemp for Neck straight is a good deal for the Braves. you are talking $18 million for the next 3 years the Braves would owe, a bit over 57 million total... Where Neck is only owed 22 million for the next 2 years. the Pads better be sending money or a good prospect for us to take that kind of money off their books. Kemp hasn't posted a WAR over 2 since 2012 and 1 was his highest in that stretch. I don't see Kemp getting better..Sure he can hit some home runs.. but it that worth 18 million a year..

What if they included Norris? Would that make it more palatable?

personally no. Not enough for me. Norris is just a slightly better version of Flowers. I would rather get a LH platoon for Flowers until we have a more permanent solution.

I would ask for $25 million to even the money or a top 15 prospect.. But I just don't value Kemp that high because he would be a huge defensive liability and really is only a power hitter at this point.

I would not regard getting Norris to be the final move in our quest to improve at catcher. But I think having him in hand would be a good thing. It would give us a fallback if other options fell through. And it would also give us a chip to potentially trade. I would also prefer to have one lefty and one righty hitting catcher. Having Norris in hand would not preclude going after Jason Castro. Another scenario is sending one of Norris/Flowers to the Yankees in a trade for McCann.

Padres making moves this trade season as Cashner is about to be dealt. Our GM is sitting on his hands overvaluing our valueless veterans that could be had for minor prospects.

To be fair, who is bringing back much other than Julio or Viz?

Comparing Heyward and Jones is silly. Andruw might not have been Chipper, but he didn't spend time on the DL early in his career like Heyward, and he actually hit quite a lot of HR's. He was special, just not Barry Bonds or Chipper Jones.

Of course he was special, but he gets knocked because he didn't turn into the greatest player to ever lived. Which is exactly the same treatment that Heyward got with Braves fans.

Yeah, Heyward's really knocking it out of the park right now. Heyward vs Andruw is an awful comparison. Andruw was a borderline HOF player... Heyward is fading fast

I think part of the reason they are compared is that both get a significant portion of their value from Defense. Also, Andruw was frustrating as a hitter, not because he wasn't productive, but because everyone thought he could have been even better. Likewise, watching Heyward hit, you think he must be ready to break out at any moment. He looks like he ought to be really good. Expectations are very high and performance has, so far not lived up to them.

Andrus Jones has a career OPS+ of 111. Jason Heyward had a career OPS+ of 110 and is just now entering his prime.

I think the way Andruw tore through the minors created an image that he was going to be an all-time great and that whatever issues he had with pitch recognition would diminish and he'd be the next Mickey Mantle. When that didn't happen, a lot of baseball observers wondered why. I think the frustration was that he never seemed to be able to lay off a lot of breaking stuff and people thought if he did, he'd be a better hitter. The consistency of that flaw in his approach is I think what created the "what might have been" discussion that seemed to surround his career. Anyone who doesn't think he was a great player is crazy, but I think anyone who was never frustrated with him at some level is overlooking some aspects of his game. I'll say this; early in his career there was no fastball he couldn't clobber. Best pure fastball hitter in the game for a number of seasons.

It's too early to tell on Heyward. He's had a miserable season, but he's still only 26. The power outage with him is what is alarming.

If Heyward keeps entering his prime like he's doing right now, he's in trouble. And OPS+ is not a good statistic

Age 26... wRC+ 74, that's awful
