Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

I’d be annoyed they are not getting the draft pick and will be slightly better and finish with a better record as well.

The thought process might be that since Mous isn’t going to get $50M, they are only giving up a pick near #75 rather than a pick in the 30-35 range.

Add Mous to their recent value additions and maybe they don’t suck.

That is shocking.

It’s a little depressing the Braves couldnt afford that.

Oh wait, he probably only wanted to sign in K.C...right?

I have no idea how hard he pursued him if at all, but perhaps we want to give camargo a look in the last year before we win 14 straight division titles, again. Maybe AA has his mind up on going for Donald next season

I can’t wait for the spin about why the Braves don’t need Mous for $6M.

Surely it’s not because they couldn’t even afford that tiny commitment...because the battery...or something.

Let’s have an avatar bet... I say camargo has higher fWAR than mous this season. Both players have to play 120 games to qualify. Winner picks loser’s avatar for the offseason.

Yeah but we got Markakis for $12M

I was one of those against the Markakis signing who predicted it would burn us unless we traded him before the last year of it. Honestly, I wanted him traded long ago now, first chance we had. I'd say missing out on Moose at this cost makes that sting even more now.

They can probably afford it or the extra it would've took to top it but decided to save the funds. Regardless, if we were not paying Markakis 12 million then Moose might be a Brave now.

The Rockies are “close” to reaching a deal to bring back free agent outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (via Twitter). If finalized, the deal would be for a one year term, per the report.

I kinda get the feeling that when Moose saw there was no “big” deal out there...he decided to stay home.

I would have liked to have him...sure. He wasn’t taking us to the WS this year lol. I don’t think Camargo is the answer, but let’s play him and see. I don’t think Rio is the answer...let him prove it on the field. These are questions that can be answered this year, so we know what is needed for next year (when it matters). It also show cases a guy like Rio, if you would like to move him in a deal.

I am fine with them not adding long term payroll this year (or at least until the deadline). I think AA has a plan. I am going to enjoy not seeing a bunch of “one year” guys out there this year.

I’d rather do a charity donation bet. And no games played qualification.

I’ll bet you $25... I’m the one taking a completely unproven player. Can I require you to donate to trump re-election if I win? Lol

Fine with me. If you aren’t confident enough in your opinion, maybe you shouldn’t bet. It is very likely Camargo doesn’t get into 120 games, so it almost makes it a no-lose bet for you if that qualification is allowed.

I don’t expect this year to be that great, so I like to give myself other little things to keep up with. I have the Swanson ops bet and now this one. You on... no disqualifiers. If I lose, I will go to the local pay day loan place here in Mississippi to borrow $25

I think this might be a Boras strategy play. Mous will be 30 for almost the whole 2019 season.

No way KC offers him another QO after this season and risk him accepting at $18M per. By taking this deal he resets his FA for next season without a QO. Sure, there are many others as good or better than him in FA next season. However, many teams appear to be lining up their payrolls to play next offseason which may produce a better market.

I wonder if the deal has a no trade clause attached? Two downsides: 1. He flops in 2018 and his market completely crashes 2. He gets injured and his market crashes.
