Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

I'd rather the Braves went after Souza than Renfroe or Dickerson, especially at the cost of a FV 40/45 23 year old in AA.

Such odd moves from the Rays the last few days. I wish the Braves could find a way to take advantage of their mini fire sale. They are just giving away average MLB players right now.

Same thoughts here. I’d have liked Souza a lot for that price.

OK, more details..

DBacks also send Banda (FV 50 LHP) to the Rays, and the DBacks send Weidner to the Yanks.

That makes a lot more sense for the Rays now. Whew.

Equivalent package from the Braves is probably Allard plus DPete plus Camargo plus a fungible pitcher for Souza. No thanks. I want a better LFer.

Rays get Nick Solak from the Yanks. About as underwhelming as the guy they got from the Twins.

Rays slash payroll, again. DBacks get their cheap OFer. Yanks get a guy to bridge the gap to Torres/Andujar.

Does this officially close the door on any chance the Yanks sign Mous?

I would imagine so. They have Tyler Wade, Andujar, Drury all who can play 3B.

Seriously who is going to get Moustakas

If you could get him kinda cheap, like 3 years, 50 mil would you do it?

He'd cost some picks and we'd have no 2nd or 3rd but the farm is pretty loaded anyway, time to get good.

Seriously. Who is left? The White Sox? They just drafted Burger, a college 3B.

Getting Mous for 4/50 broken down as 5/15/15/15 might not be a crazy idea (but probably is).

Maybe Philly?

KC is rebuilding which is smart, but there arent alot of suitors.

Souza is also the type of player that hits dies on the vine in his late 20’s.

I think I like this move for AZ, but I am with you in aiming a bit higher for a LF

The DBacks just acquired Souza, and gave up:

Drury (1 win bench IFer)
Banda (FV 50 LHP)
Weidner (fungible pitching prospect)
2 PtbNLs

Seems like a huge price to pay for Souza just because they lost out on JDM.

Rays and Yanks made out well here I think.

With Rays in a firesale, i wonder if they ship off Archer next.

Not sure if he's available but i wonder what it would take to get Kiermier from them. Great defensively, and signed to a good contract.

Huh? Banda was awful last year, and Souza was quite good. I think this is a slam dunk for everybody but the Rays.

Yankees are going to crush the regular season. Should easily score the most runs in baseball.

Does anyone have a read on Jabari Blash's defense? Considerable K rate concerns, but has RH power, some OB skills, and some degree of upside.

In general, I would rather not shop in these aisles for the foreseeable future. We already have our fair share of AAAA players. Blash is Rule 5 fodder.

No interest whatsoever in Kiermaier - pretty redundant with Ender here (not to mention he's owed more money).

Makes one wonder if this isn't the time to see exactly what it's going to take to get Archer though. With Honeywell, Banda, DeLeon, and Yarbrough all but ready, they might be a little more interested in guys that are further away. Any deal for him is obviously going to hurt, but if AA could package Wright with younger guys like Anderson, Wentz, and Pache could he come up with a good enough offer?
