Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

Britton to the Yankees seems to be what’s going down, and Tate was pulled from his AA start. That would be good haul for Britton. Maybe one of the Os SPs is also involved.

Havent seen any other names involved, Tate is their 9th best prospect on Pipeline. That's a good haul if he's the centerpiece.

Equivalent for the Braves doesn’t exist as Tate’s value less than Allard, but more than guys like Sanchez.

I’m glad the Braves didn’t beat the Yankees offer.

Looks like Tate, Rogers, and Carroll.

Yankees 9th, 15th, and non-top 30, pretty steep.

Real nice trade for the O's. Carroll could have conceivably been a more useful reliever for the Yanks this season than Britton, even though the Yanks need a lefty.

Andrew Gould, a write for Bleacher Report, proposed a few blockbuster trades in his most recent article. One of those trades has the Braves sending Allard, Touki, and Demeritte to the O's for Kevin Gausman.

Not sure how I feel about that one. I like Gausman but I'm not sure he's more than a mid rotation starter.
The cost is fair, but I just am not crazy about giving up that much talent for a mid rotation pitcher when we could easily sign a similar pitcher in the off-season. Obviously that doesn't help us now, but I'd rather target someone like Liriano, Lynn, Ross, or Odorizzi, who should be much cheaper to acquire.

That's the exact type of package the Braves need to avoid giving up for a pitcher like Gausman.

Eovaldi to Red Sox -- another potential target (though not really discussed with Atlanta) is gone.

Rough equivalent to Beeks would be Fried. Fried may be a bit more valuable, but the Braves would have had to beat the BoSox offer to win Eovaldi.

Who thinks it's a good idea to give up 5-6 years of Fried for 2 months of Eovaldi?

I'd like to see Gausman with an organization besides the Orioles. The talent is there, but he tends to have too many meltdowns.

Liriano and Lynn are bad pitchers right now. Ross has turned back into a pumpkin. Odorizzi could be worth a shot. They'd be cheaper because they aren't very good.

I didn't realize Liriano had fell off as much since May with a FIP now over 5. Lynn has been the victim of some bad luck, combined with an insanely high walk rate. But Lynn, Odorizzi, and Ross are basically league average pitchers with solid peripherals that suggest there is potential to be expect a better 2nd half. And all we really need for the rotation is a league average pitcher to help steady our rotation and give us some depth to help with injuries and the younger guys hitting a wall.

Bo: Seems like a pretty light return for Eovaldi, no? A 45 FV LHP in AAA – why didn’t the Braves spring for him at a low cost?

Kiley McDaniel: Braves don’t have a directly comparable guy. Maybe Tucker Davidson or Kyle Muller? Would Braves fans do that deal?
