Around the League 2020 Edition

I can blame Trout for not winning anything in his 30s. But the Angels have done a pathetic job of building around him.

It’s amazing what they could of had with the money they spent instead of who they spent it on.
They would of been better off signing Cole then Rendon since offense was not the problem and the pitching has always been.
Also Ryu is another they could of signed but went another direction.
PIss poor job by the front office

They were in on Cole, just werent the highest bid, Yankees were.

Angels have made some dumb moves primarily pushed by their owner (Pujols is an absolute albatross and has been for years) and Upton.

Then they had some bad luck (albeit somewhat self inflicted) with Ohtani - pitch and hit? He may never be the same and certainly won't pitch.

They are not big international players outside Ohtani so they don't have an Acuna or Albies coming up. They don't draft particularly well. They tend to go for position players when they do draft high.

They rely too heavily on FA signings to make a big splash instead of build the best team.

In reality they should trade Trout if they can get anywhere remotely in the ballpark of his massive value, trade Rendon, work through the bad money, maximize the trade value of what they have on their roster left, commit to a 5 year rebuild. They won't do that. And Trout will never win anything.

Didn't realize Ozuna was so close to a triple crown. He would absolutely win MVP had he been able to pull that off.

We sure dodged a bullet by not resigning Donelson.
He’s off the playoff roster with his calf again

Dont say that too loudly. Most here wanted to pay JD more than Freddie.

i'm not even sure what this means. more than Freddie's next contract? more than his current AAV?
i recall most people not wanting to pay him close to $100m. i think it was tricky because there was no solution at 3B besides him, so people were willing to overpay by a good bit, but ultimately, once he signed, most here were fine letting him go for that amount.

Yeah...paying JD more than Freeman is fine because he was/is worth more than what Freeman is making. The AAV that Donaldson got, 23m, is fine (I would of went to 3/75) but the years obviously weren't which is why he is with the Twins and not the Braves.

AA has struck gold the past 2 seasons with Donaldson and Ozuna. But sooner or later you are going to take a gamble on a 1 year deal and lose.

I recall myself willing to do 3/75 for JD but not much more dollar wise and certainly not any more than 3 years guaranteed.
