Around the League - 2021 Szn

The hyperkinesis exhibited in the Frazier trade just spells it all out to me. Nothing against Frazier, but where did he fit in that line-up? To get him into games, they had to move Tatis to the OF (which in and of itself isn't a terrible idea) and move Cronenworth to SS (which isn't a particularly good idea). I suppose they could have platooned Frazier with Pham. It all just seemed like a superfluous move when they did it, but it was hailed in the baseball press because of the reasonable acquisition cost and Frazier's gaudy (but likely unsustainable) batting average.

Preller has made a bunch of moves that look good on paper (he hasn't surrendered much in terms of prospect wealth) that haven't worked out. Some have, but a lot of his glitzy moves have turned out to be meh.

media kissed his ass for acquiring Frazier while ignoring he missed on everyone else because he couldn't afford them due to his other bad deals.

Totally agree. I said as much to my Padre buddy at the time - where are they going to play all these guys? And, they needed pitching, not hitting...he assured me all was fine and that the logjam was "a good problem to have."

Now that they've got a rotisserie team with four first basemen, three second basemen and three rightfielders, plus the biggest asshole in MLB at 3B, I wonder if he feels the same way.

Phillies gonna win tonight, so lead is 2. I think we split this weekend, and they win 2 out of 3... this would be...
Braves 82-73
Phillies 81-75

Headed into our series

This is funny. I've been critical of Preller for 3 years now...

Preller in SD has won a few off seasons, and won a few trade deadlines....and nothing else in 5 seasons.

Now folks around here are heaping praise on him for adding to the MLB team because they want to see AA add to the Braves MLB team. It's always funny to read folks talk about how great a GM is when he's making a ton of trades. Let's talk about Preller in 2-3 years after we see how well SD is positioned.

AA is doing a fantastic job guiding this mid-market team to long-term contention. Anyone who can't see that is absolutely clueless.

You nailed it. Preller goes out and makes flashy moves, and all the mouth breathers declare him a genius. Then those same mouth breathers bash AA for his measured approach.

Meanwhile, AA has built a 3x division champion, while the Padres have won nothing...and yet Preller is a great GM according to the fools grading off seasons and trade deadlines.

It's very easy to cheer for that character to fail.

Preller’s first year was an “all in” attempt to contend and everyone exclaimed how awesome he was as a GM. They won nothing and then completely tore things down. Folks conveniently forget that type of outcome when they are blabbering about “trying to win” and “flags fly forever”.

He’s been the Gm since 2014, and SD hasn’t done anything.

Padres are once again going to win the offseason and fans will call Preller a genius.

While the moves are exciting, let’s wait 1-2 seasons to see if he just set them up for a rebuild yet again after not winning anything.

And yet folks here cry about AA not getting those guys, and everyone bends over backwards congratulating Preller on being an amazing GM.

And...they are in 3rd place.

Apparently the Braves and Brewers both made a legit big-time offer for Bryan Reynolds prior to the Trade Deadline, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

4 years of team control after this year, yeah that would be a haul.

One of the few guys I've have been comfortable selling the farm for. Mostly because the Pirates have zero clue how to properly value players.
