That being said, Braves get something done with him. If not, i guess we could move Riley to 1B, and sign a SS/3B. Only other decent 1B are Belt and Rizzo. Spotrac has FF's value at 5 years/137 mil, the AAV is fine there, it's the years that would concern me. But with Albies/Acuna's bargain deals, we can more than afford to do that especially with the DH happening in the NL long-term.

The Mets are in a tough spot. Because with Cano and his salary back, as well as probably offering the QO to Conforto and Syndegaard, they are right up against the luxury tax threshold without even making other improvements.

Conforto hasnt had the kinda year to get the QO, Thor is a tough one though. I think he accepts the QO if he's offered.

Was looking at Mets roster, they have 16 guys projected for arb, on top of Thor likely getting the QO. It is indeed a tough spot. Plus they traded alot for Baez.

I know Conforto hasnt but I believe the Mets will give it to him anyway, banking on either a bounce back or that he will reject it.

They're ****ed.

The Dodgers are an example of a rich team with excellent management. The Mets are rich but incredibly stupid. They look like somebody's fantasy team - no defense, three first basemen... What a cluster.

The NL East got lucky when the Mets new owner came in with the plan to win it all with a perennial underachieving team. Just imagine what the Mets could have been in three years if the new ownership had decided to rebuild. Trading Conforto, Thor and DeGrom before the season would have brought back a nice package of prospects. The Lindor and Baez trades cost the team valuable prospects they would still have in the organization. Trading Stroman, Loup and Diaz at the deadline would have also brought a nice prospect package. A Mets team with a loaded farm system and a rich owner willing to spend is a scary thing.
But instead the Mets tried to compete. Now they have bad farm system, a large payroll and guys near free agency that are hurt and non productive.

It's certainly an interesting discussion. Obviously it would have been tough to make that argument a couple of months ago when they were in first still. Really it seemed the DeGrom injury did them in, along with the fact that Carrasco never panned out, and Walker turned into a bust once they cracked down on sticky stuff.

I've recently felt the Mets were toeing the line between whether to rebuild or go for it, and being indecisive in the long run will hurt them. That Baez trade was absolutely terrible, especially with what they gave up compared to what we gave up to get our trade deadline pieces.

Essentially, their strategy is they are going to hold onto DeGrom as long as possible, and continue to try and compete as long as he remains an ace. Very dangerous position to take.
 
At the time their tailspin started (August 1), the Mets were still 7 games over .500 and had a nice 4 game lead in the division.

Had they played roughly the same the last 2 months, they would be pretty much tied with the Braves right now, and this final series would have been amazing to watch.

Instead, they somehow went 6-19 and got buried by the Braves.

It's hard to fathom how inept that organization is from top to bottom, and I hope seeing them bumble around year after year makes folks appreciate the Braves organization.

Remember when the Braves organization appeared inept pre-AA? I do, and I’m thankful everyday that Coppy got the death penalty.
 
Every one refers to the Coppi disaster but I wonder how much of that fiasco can be laid directly at the feet of John Hart and Schuerholz?
 
With attendance spiking and hopefully growing in the future AA can really make this team into a perennial powerhouse.

The farm system has a bunch of interesting players and the draft strategies have been fantastic.
 
I was just watching the MLB network and Christopher Russo was congratulating the Yankees for hosting the wild card game?!

But the way I see it, with three games left, the Yankees are 2 games up on the Mariners and Red Sox, and three up on the Jays. The Yankees have three games left with the Rays, while none of the other contenders play each other.

Am I missing something, or is Mad Dog?

I'm really confused at the timing here. The guy who broke that says he's making one more appearance in Gwinnett and then being called up. So he'll pitch in Gwinnett tonight, likely have Saturday off since he's been a starter all year, and then pitch in relief on Sunday? What's the point of this?

If the goal was to try him out and potentially get him on the playoff roster, why wasn't he called up earlier this week? And if that's not the plan, why clog up a 40-man spot for a guy to pitch one inning of relief in a meaningless game?
