Around The Majors 2019

Honestly picking up Kakes option for next year doesnt seem bad, 6 mil for 1 year seems to be a relative bargain.

I don't really have a problem with Markakis. I just always marvel how polarized the posters in here seem to be on him. He is who he is. Glad to see he's not intent on doing the Iron Man thing this season.

Most on here wanted Brantley or Haniger. Brantley at 16 mil a year is alot, not sure the gap is that much over what Nick is making. And given Haniger isnt available, Nick for the money he got, hard to complain over it.

I do wish we had a legit RH OF'er. But at least Nick will get more time off this year.

Agree on the gap between Brantley and Markakis not being huge, but there still is a gap, and we didn't do anything with the money we saved signing Markakis.

Isn’t swihart 100 times better than Alex Jackson? I know he’s not been great but I’d like him.

Markakis is fine. I just didn’t want him, ender, catcher and Swanson all hitting around a 100 wrc. If Swanson is better that helps.

I still think neck should hit lead off.

I don't know who we could send to Boston for him but he may be a late bloomer like Flowers. I'd take a flier on Swihart (depending on the price, it can't be high at this moment) and stash him in AAA, maybe working with Seitzer can fix him over time.

I would have liked to have seen an upgrade as well, but for what was doled out to McCutcheon and Brantley, I'm glad we stayed out of commitments like that. Hopefully Pache and Waters continue their fairly rapid development.

Markakis is riding a .372 BABIP and 28.6% HR rate to a .896 OPS. I don't think it needs to be pointed out that all those numbers are unsustainable.

He is on pace to appear in all 162 games and 670 PAs, and has only started the game on the bench against a single LHP.

This is literally 2018 happening all over again.

So another all-star appearance and 2+ WAR?

I’m still holding out hope that AA and Co. will more or less order Snit to use Markakis properly.
