Around The Majors 2019

I thought we were talking about offense. But his 0.7 fWAR is better than Neck's.

Either way Bruce has not been bad this season.

So far, you are correct. But he's striking out at career high rates while walking at career low rates and making contact at career low rates. Everything about his production so far (which is basically power driven) is a mirage. I'd expect his numbers in Philly to drop dramatically. A little over a week ago he was hitting around replacement level with a .183/.248/.486 line.

Yeah, I’m not worried about Jay Bruce. However, I think he’ll see a little bit of an uptick getting out of Safeco and hitting in CBP with that short porch in right.

His 8.7% BB walk rate is now a career low and a tick below his career avg of 9.2% Strikeour rate is always a concern but his BABIP is only .210. I'd expect that to improve. His ISO will drop but it will settle into teh 200's not the mid 100's like last year. I see no reason he can't put up 2016 and 2017 numbers offensively.

He still sucks on defense though and is marginal player overall though. But he can hit a little bit.

May be a little, but he had a .260 BABIP last year and has a career .280 BABIP, so I wouldn't expect that drastic of an improvement there, at least compared to the average hitter.

Without improvements in the rates I listed in my previous post, his current line will come crashing down again, likely to similar levels it was at about 10 days ago. He has a career high HR rate at the moment as well, which seems extremely unlikely to continue at his age with declining contact skills.

With saying all this, he's likely still an upgrade for their team, though a marginal one. I just don't expect him to maintain > 110 WRC+.

The Royals say they’re ready to trade “nearly anybody.” Any targets? I like Soler and Deikman. Deikman has some walk issues (of course) but misses lots of bats and doesn’t give up many homers.

Talk about Acuna in MLBTR chat

Charles
6:45 Acuña’s power has seemed to drop off. Has the league adjusted to him and now he needs to readjust? Or is he pressing?
Mark P
6:46 Looking at Acuna's isolated slugging numbers throughout the minor leagues, his current .186 ISO is a lot close to his minors totals than his .259 ISO in 2018 was. It could be that 2018 was his power outlier, at least at this stage in this young career.
6:47 While there's been a power dropoff, Acuna is pretty much the same in average, OBP, and hard-hit balls --- plus, his strikeouts and swinging-strike rate is down from last season.

In short, I think he'll be fine.
6:48 He's definitely not a one-dimensional hitter, which bodes well for his overall development that he is still so productive even without many home runs

Also in same chat, Mark P said that Kimbrel will likely end up with the Phiiiies.

He can sign in 2 hrs, 57 mins!!!

Honestly, if Kimbrel signs with the Phillies, I might end up hating him for life. It would be completely irrational, but I haven’t actively disliked a team as much as this year’s Phillies in a LONG time.

I completely agree with this lol

If he completely bombs at philly, I will still love Kimbrel... maybe even more than I do now
