Around the Majors - 2022 Version

I know we’ll need an OF what about Benintendi? He plays good defense and hardly ever strikes out which is huge for us. He’s hitting .337 and we know the Royals will sell.

xWOBA by year

2017: 338
2018: 353
2019: 339
2020: 278
2021: 331
2022: 346

His defense in left would make the overall OF defense plus again. He's a free agent at the end of the year so he is someone I'd definitely have an interest in. I mean at this point anyone would be an upgrade. The Braves have great attendance numbers so hopefully AA has the budget to take virtually anyone on in a trade. Benintendi wouldn't be my first choice for an upgrade but he would help the team. They very would could need 2 OFs depending on how they like Harris' play by the deadline.

We should be able to get him pretty cheap with him being a FA at the end of the year. Who would be your first choice?

I have figured out the problem. We have are honoring the old relics on our board banner and making no mention of the most recent championship and the baseball Gods are angry... We might need to pay some respect to last years success before we run out of time this year.

This is it.

Joe Girardi out in Philly.

Yeah, he's the problem all right....

He didn't help, but that organization needs to be scrubbed top to bottom -- and they need to trade off everything they can outside of Harper/Bohm/Stott.

I’d say keep Realmuto as well.

There has to be more to this.. no way you fire a manager first week in June when you were not really serious contenders in the division. What could Joe really do with that team.

Philly sees Kapler being successful in a strong division and realize it’s the organization. So Joe is also a scapegoat

Have to make someone a sacrificial lamb. Ownership ponied up all that crazy money to add two bats that couldn't play defense with a gun to their heads, didn't do anything to add to their rotation, and they're down two of their three best players with Harper unable to play defense and Segura out.

Can't fire the players and the GM isn't going to fire himself - doesn't leave many sacrificial lamb candidates.

Probably so, but I think it's more SF's FO than kapler. Just like Atlanta's success

I agree 100%. And the new bullpen rule helps protect Kapler for over managing too.

I do wish AA would be more prescriptive like the SF front office is. Or maybe Kapler just understands the information better.

FO will have to be let go this off season. Firing Joe now was their last ditch effort to turn the season around and save their jobs. They are completely incompetent.

That organization is a disaster. They have money but are totally unable to develop any of their prospects. The list of recent failures is very long, with only a few success stories.

Dombrowski is a dinosaur who possesses the power of silver tonguing ownership. Unfortunately for Philly, I think he lingers around longer (and he is too old to want to rebuild so good luck to them).

Aaron Nola is really the only guy. If you look at the list of Philly all stars, the only guys that have been home grown are Herrera (lol) and Dominic Brown (who was good for about 200 at bats). Stott and Bohm look like the latest crop of busts.

There isn’t another team that’s this inept at drafting and developing.

They're pretty much screwed because they are stuck in this perpetual middle ground between not being good enough to contend, and being too good to rebuild (mostly thanks to their payroll). Their farm system is among the worst in the league. If they did want to rebuild (which I don't think ownership has an appetite for), it would most likely be a lengthy one.
